About this listen

Humankind have spread to the stars, but so far, the only other intelligent being discovered is a primitive fox-like race called the Kawokee. Sixty years after their discovery, humanity is being inundated by a virus that originated from the Kawokee world.

Jasmine Char believes the cure lies within the native culture. While other scientists look for a chemical solution amidst the growing fear and political landmines, Jasmine has her own reasons for finding a cure. But with the planet’s inhabitants decimated by human interference and misunderstandings, will she find the answers, or will the Kawokee disappear along with the entire human race?

This book maybe triggering for some people as it reflects how native people historically were brutally treated all over the world by other countries.

Kawokee is a very creative tale of a powerful race trying to forcibly overpower another to solve an infertility issue. The story is quite unique and complex. It draws on different political, science, military etc, perspectives to try and 'justify' the actions of the humans in trying to reach their goals at high costs to the Kawokee's. Intermingled in tragedy are also warm character friendships and mysteries to be solved.

I won't say too much here but this is definitely a recommended read, it was such a good book. The narrator did a good job, her narration (and the story) always kept my interest and I wasn't jarred when the narrator switched between the different male and female voices, as she voiced both sexes convincingly.

I was given a copy of this book for free of my own choosing and have voluntarily left this review.
