About this listen
London's East End, 1888. When darkness falls, terror begins.
The foggy streets of London's Whitechapel district have become a nocturnal hunting ground for Jack the Ripper, and no woman is safe. Flower girl Constance Piper is not immune to dread, but she is more preoccupied with her own strange experiences of late.
Clairvoyants seem to be everywhere these days. In desperation, even Scotland Yard has turned to them to help apprehend the Ripper. Her mother has found comfort in contacting her late father in a séance. But are such powers real? And could Constance really be possessed of second sight? She longs for the wise counsel of her mentor and champion of the poor, Emily Tindall, but the kind missionary has gone missing.
Following the latest grisly discovery, Constance is contacted by a high-born lady of means who fears the victim may be her missing sister. She implores Constance to use her clairvoyance to help solve the crime, which the press is calling "the Whitechapel Mystery", attributing the murder to the Ripper.
As Constance becomes embroiled in intrigue far more sinister than she could have imagined, assistance comes in a startling manner that profoundly challenges her assumptions about the nature of reality. She'll need all the help she can get - because there may be more than one depraved killer out there.

There's definitely so much that can be expanded on to make other great stories.
A ripper of a story...! :)

Neither narrator seems fluent in their part, they sound too much like people reading out loud from a book they don't much like. And why use a narrator who can't do a Welsh accent to read a part that needs one?
Added to this there are lots of mispronunciations, which I find really irritating. This book has numerous examples of why narrators really should look up words they aren't familiar with.
The storyline was enough to keep me listening & the characters were well-formed so I might well read (or with different narrators listen to) another book by this author. I'd like to have given it a better score but I simply couldn't because of the ghastly presentation.
Poor reading marrs a decent storyline

That said, the storyline was good and had a good twist on the end .
Maybe Constance and Emily will continue to appear in other books but with better and more believable narration .
After all said and done The Sixth Victim gets a thumbs up from me
Great storyline

This book takes you into the underbelly of Victorian society, not just shining a light on the poorer classes but also the privileged. It show the violence, corruption and lack of any respect for those of lower class working people. Life is cheap here if you’re poor whilst the rich can afford to appear respectable whilst using their money and position to take advantage and abuse.
I thought the author captured the atmosphere of fear in Whitechapel at time of the murders very well and the descriptions of Victorian slums are very accurate.
Be warned there are some horrific scenes and only lightly veiled child abuse.
This story kept me riveted waiting to see what would happen. Will I read the next in the series? I’m not sure. I wanted some lightness among all the darkness in this book but there was very little. Would I recommend it yes.
Eery take on Jack the Ripper London
