Loved this

I ve never really read books like these . But I really enjoyed it , the story had lots to keep my interest and I really loved the voice of the characters .. I would definitely recommend this book for easy listening and enjoyable to .

Incredible

The hollows is an awe inspiring experience you feel like you are propelled back to 1860s london. The book is beautifully narrated by Helen Taylor her dramatisation of the characters is fantastic my favourite being little polly. I enjoyed reading the paperback but this audiobook takes it to another level I would recommend this book to anyone a thrilling read that you cannot put down. The book is also beautifully written by the author and cannot wait for the next instalment.

Brilliantly Narrated and an excellent story.

The story is supernatural which is a little different for me, as. I’m usually a murder mystery reader but I actually really enjoyed this book! Well done to the Author, I’m off to buy the next one!

In the Midnight hour, we want more, more, MORE!

I loved the book version of The Hollows, so I was intrigued as to how the novel would come across as an audiobook. I was not disappointed. This audio version is outstanding!

Helen Taylor's narration and attention to accents brings each character gloriously to life and enhances C.L. Monaghan's masterfully crafted tale beautifully. The variation and inflection of the voices of each character, in particular the growly rasp of the villain of the piece Spring-Heeled Jack made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end, immersing me into the story completely.

The Hollows is a tale of murder, mystery and magic set in London in 1860. Our hero, Midnight Gunn is a very special gent who was born during a solar eclipse as Halley's Comet blazed a trail across the sky, endowing him with supernatural powers that are both a blessing and a curse

Midnight uses his gifts to assist Detective Inspector Arthur Gredge in solving strange and unusual cases. Gredge is the only one aware of the extent of Midnights abilities, earning him the title of "Scotland Yards best kept secret".

The story finds Midnight and Gredge on the hunt for the notorious "Spring Heeled Jack", following the discovery of the body of a well-to-do young lady in a seedy part of the city As they follow the clues left behind and the number of victims rises, will they be able to uncover the true identity of this monster who is terrorising the streets of London and stop his killing spree for good?

The Hollows is an action packed tale of traditional gothic mystery, entwined with paranormal adventure. The characters are masterfully created and well researched, leaving us, the listener, wanting to know more about their back stories and taking us on a rollercoaster ride throughout - I was cheering for our heroes, but I also found myself wanting to to know more about the person behind Spring Heeled Jack…. In spite of their disturbing actions and behaviour, I wanted to understand their motives too.

So there you have it in a nutshell. The Hollows is recommended for age 16+, mainly because there is mild bad language, adult themes and necromancy. The Hollows is just the beginning of what promises to be a cracker of a series and I avidly look forward to Midnight Gunn's next adventure, and hopefully more of Helen Taylor's story-weaving narrative skills too.

Brilliant

Having read the book which was a great read, I decided to listen to the Audible, wasn't sure what to expect as I had never done this before. Wow it was so well narated, the characters were truly brought to life, kept me engaged throughout. Realised you don't always take in everything when reading but listening to the story I didn't miss a word. Well done author and narater.

Intriguing Story with an interesting cast of characters

I was intrigued by the premise of this story, in particular the Main character, Midnight Gunn. I’m happy to say that, for the most part, it was an enjoyable listen. You are introduced to Midnight Gunns origins fairly quickly then you are brought to his current situation aiding a Scotland Yard Detective - taking into account that this is a historical murder mystery. The story moves along quickly & introduces you to an interesting cast of supporting characters who the narrator manages to give fairly distinct voices to. The reason I gave this a 4 star is due to the narrator occasionally stumbling over words and her rhythm and pacing felt off in places. This drew me out of the story each time and on a few occasions was quite jarring. Overall it was an enjoyable listen and I will most likely get the next book in the series.

A sort of knock off batman with magic powers.

Sorry but no to this. Based on its reviews I thought I'd really enjoy this but it's pretty poor really..The main character is cliche and it's all a sort of watery version of things you've read a hundred times before. Main character, dead parents, special powers, sticks to the shadow, helps ,people, good looking, struggles with his darker side blah blah blah it's like someone threw all the same old ingredients in but didn't bother to.actually make the character ...an actual character. virtually no personality and to top it off there's some really bizarre and awkward sex elements jammed in unnecessarily which are cringe worthy at best and disturbing at worst for instance the bit where a criminal woman captures our hero and finds him so irresistibly attractive for no.special reason (of course she does... le sigh) she drugs and rapes him and he bites.her tongue off...and the story rolls on regardless.
