About this listen
Brant Harkrader is done living by other peoples’ rules. He may not know exactly what he wants out of life, but he’s perfectly happy letting that question figure itself out while starting a new job as a tour guide.
Too bad the one thing he does want—his sister’s BFF—only sees him as a little brother.
Or so he thinks…
Kellan Shelby-Briggs has never shied away from going after what he wants. And what he wants is the important contract that will put his brand new company on the map—and Brant.
Too bad Kellan’s career keeps yanking him away just as things heat up between them.
Now that Brant is back in town—up close and personal in Kell's living space—can they finally get the timing right to go after the love that has eluded them both for too long?
©2021 Amy Aislin (P)2022 Amy AislinBoth have secretly been in love with each other for years, neither one acting on it for fear of ruining a great friendship.
When Brandt finds himself back home and in need of a place to crash, Kellan
quickly offers his home as an option instead of Brandt's sister's Wendy's place which is already full and very busy.
Both come across very comedically as very oblivious to each other's romantic advancements but luckily they get on the same page.
Poor Brandt has really suffered through some horrible things with his family.
I loved how fiercely protective, devoted and supportive Killian was of Brandt while also being a safe space for him to grow and develop his own strength and independence.
These two were such great characters but together they were even better and stronger.
They were completely realistic and I truly appreciated how they communicated and worked through their issues as adults.
Michael Franklin did an amazing job of narrating and bringing these characters to life.
Sweet, slow burn, low angst romance

Case in point, Brant and Kellan’s story is a sweet, very low-angst tale of coming together when the situation is right for both men.
If you read Keeping Casey, you may remember Harkrader, Ethan’s teammate with the homophobic stepbrother, who was pining for his older sister’s best friend. Well, here we are, we meet Brant Harkrader, who is now back in his hometown looking for a fresh start, which brings him in very close proximity to said older sister’s best friend.
What he doesn’t know is that Kellan as stopped seeing him as a kid or a little brother for some time now, As a matter of fact, he sees him as a man he can have a future with and now that he has Brant back within reach he can start to woo him to make that happen.
Swoony!

The storyline wasn’t particularly complex or fleshed out, and was fairly predictable throughout. I didn’t get much of a feel for most of the side characters as they were quite one dimensional.
However, the narrator was not great at all. The style was choppy and monotonous. I have listened to older audiobooks with a similar type of narrator, so I was able to persevere to the end (barely).
A light read but …

I really enjoyed these two characters. There is a real ease in the way that they get along and spend time together as though it's no effort at all. They're very strong willed in what they want but have learned to protect themselves after harmful behaviour from others in their past. Brandt's bully continues to cause trouble and affects relationships with others. What makes Kellan different is how quickly and staunchly he comes to Brandt's defence but at the same time doesn't take away the independence that Brandt has fought to gain over the past few years.
Overall, this is a great friends to lovers romance, it was so easy for me to get into and enjoy. There's a good cast of characters along the way, including some met in book one of this series so it was nice to get to interact with them again. Definitely another recommended read from this author.
Michael Franklin does another good job in narrating this series. One thing I would prefer is a little more difference in the voices given to the MC's so that I can tell them apart easier but I found it an easy story to listen to.
Sweet and easy romance

The plot uses a childhood friends to adult lovers trope to perfection. The relationship between Brant and Kellan is so rich and full of history. The relationship angst is kept to a minimal, but there is a lot of family drama for Brant that broke my heart. I love Brant and Kellan’s resilience and how they supported each other. There were so many wonderful moments of achievement for each character.
The audiobook was narrated by Michael Franklin who does a nice job. There were some passionate moments and intense declarations that Michael performed well. The audiobook quality and product were great.
