Born ‘a ragged-arsed kid from the backstreets of Glasgow’, McCallion joined the Paras to escape a miserable home life and find the family he longed for. After six tense tours in Ulster, McCallion gave up everything to move to South Africa in the hope of qualifying for the highly elite South African Special Forces.

Having succeeded in joining the Recces, McCallion was involved in plots to assassinate Robert Mugabe and Joshua Nkomo. I first became aware of this author on a tv program about the sas. From the brief insite he gave I was immediately captivated by his story. In this book he gives a much more frank recollection and I enjoyed listening to his tales, with the only question I have being, I’d love to hear more about the stuff he’s left out. An awesome book.

I read this book when it first was published an was very happy to see it in audible, wish there where more like it, please audible take note there are so many books on this subject but not enough on audible......

An well written account, apparently written by a man who has lived a full life, in two continents, fighting only with the elites. Some great jokes, generally well narrated, possibly by the author’s son, but marred by many mispronunciations that at one stage caused me to doubt the authenticity of the story,
, and therein reduced my enjoyment.

Harry’s story is both inspiring and definitely eventful... someone with not the greatest of upbringings, yet against all odds became a person that others can and will look up to!

I’ve read other reviews that have been over critical of a running speed of an animal, and the pronunciation of an abbreviation... therefore slaying the narrator.... I can forgive as I am not a grammar nazi! I must add that Welsh words like Pen-Y-Fan are often crucified by the English, yet the narrator pronounced these welsh places perfectly!

Great book, of a real hero who wrote about himself warts and all... and always gave recognition to those who he worked with and did not claim as his own! Thank you Harry for sharing!
