Another win for Donna DeShayne
Bella Fayre does a few things brilliantly and they are reflect in her books. She researcher her stories in such a way as to be able to highlight obscure yet eye-opening details. She is able to capture her audience's attention and make them feel gut wrenching emotions for the situation the characters are in. Finally, Bella Fayre is able to weave a fictional story loaded and supported by facts. I have deliberately used the word "weave" because Bella balances the murder case against the backstory without actually giving away the mystery. Bella is something of a literary acrobat combined with an artist.
Ken, Dr Donna DeShayne's partner and lover, is working on a double murder case that has his team stumped. Asking Donna to consult on the case, the two carefully tweeze out the unclear clues. As usual the guilty are guilty by law but the reality isn't ever as clear as that. The story starts with the Spanish influenza pandemic and crosses time to the present, tracing the trials and pain of three generations of a family. As usual, Donna sees beyond the obvious to the deep and meaningful. She is able to understand the human psyche and experience in ways that lead her to the truth.
Kelley Hazen has performed this story expertly making it a joy to listen to!
