About this listen
Let Me Go is the powerful new memoir from foster carer and Sunday Times bestselling author Casey Watson.
Harley, 13, has been sectioned under the mental health act after attempting suicide. She was spotted climbing the railings on a footbridge that crossed a busy motorway and pulled to safety by a member of the public. After six weeks in hospital, social services are looking for a short-term placement so she can be kept safe while family therapy takes place. Harley has a family – a widowed mother and an older sister, Milly, who left home with her long-term boyfriend just over a year ago. There is no prospect of Harley going home just yet though, as her mum, who has learning difficulties and addictions issues, feels she cannot cope. So she arrives with Casey and Mike under a twenty-eight day care order.
As Harley tries to hurl herself out of the moving car on the way home, it quickly becomes clear she is in urgent need of help. Three weeks into the placement, after Harley has made various attempts to abscond, it seems like zero progress is being made. Then all of sudden there is an unexpected breakthrough, and light at the end of a long dark tunnel, but only once Harley is finally able to share the truth about the abuse she suffered at the hands of a very dangerous man.

struggling to finish it
the story line is great, I've listened to all cathu glass and Maggie hartley books but the voice telling the story is all wrong, they started as londoners then merged into one and its just winey, won't be listening to this narrator again

Not a story but someone's life.
I enjoy Casey's telling of her experiences, although the narrators voice is a bit strange until you get used to it.

Another excellent true story told
I spent my life ina Nd out of care and wish I had been lucky enough to get a foster carer like Casey Watson and Cathy glass they are genuine caring caters, wanting nothing in return except the young persons happiness, this book has hit a nerve with me and I’m so glad that Harley got the outcome she deserved against that awful pedo this book is lovely and has such a happy ending

Great memoir
1st book/audiobook I've had of Casey Watson's fostering memoirs and I enjoyed it. She adds a lot of personality, family life & her inner-monologue into the story more than others which made you feel more involved & got to know Casey, her family & Foster children.
My only gripe is that Kate Lock's narration, more so accents were a little iffy at times! For example, Casey starts with a what I'd call South London accent, but that varies during the book from being pretty common/a proper 'Souuuthhh London accent to a more well- spoken gentle accent, especially after she'd been conversating with the social worker or Foster child Harley as an example!
However, aside from her patchy accents, I think she did a great job portraying Casey's memoirs & emotions and doesn't take away from overall audible experience 👍

Ridiculous narrator
The story is good but the narration and voice are almost unbearably ridiculous. Painful to listen to such unnatural and exaggerated intonations. definitely won't buy audio books with this narrator again.

Casey Watson has a chip on her shoulder
And seems completely unable to overcome her resentment of professionals working with young people, who, it turns out, were right all along in their assessment that the cause of Harley's problems was environmental. Perhaps she should consider retirement if she really can't keep up with the "new fangled" approaches.
Awful narration - the narrator affects a ridiculous, semi-hysterical voice for Harley (and plenty of other characters) that is incredibly grating. She should stick with her almost passable Scouser when she wants to add in some variety.
Will avoid other books by this author, and any with this narrator, entirely.
