Summary

She's only been gone two hours. Her husband, David, was meant to be looking after their two-week-old daughter. But when Alice Fancourt walks into the nursery, her terrifying ordeal begins, for Alice insists the baby in the cot is a stranger she's never seen before. With an increasingly hostile and menacing David swearing she must either be mad or lying, how can Alice make the police believe her before it's too late?

Intriguing

The plot is intriguing but the characters are flat. I got bored with hearing her say that the baby was not hers. And that really was the only developed story. There were no subplots of any interest. I wanted to know what had happened to the baby but found it hard to care for the characters. I was glad when it was over.

Well paced until the final chapter

I felt the narration was strong (despite other negative reviews) my problem was the weak and somewhat forced ending, too many small & unbelievable twists that rendered the main plot academic. Shame as I have enjoyed all Hannah's other books.

enjoyed

was put off initially by a ghastly Americanisation (it's an accelerator, not gas pedal) but it was a good listen, if not a tad predictable.

OK

My first encounter with a Sophie Hannah book - good listen but a little strange and lacking plot.

Not sure I like it but need to know what happens

Would you try another book written by Sophie Hannah or narrated by Charlotte Strevens?

Would def try another by this author but am finding the narration very irritating. The emphasis is very often on the wrong word and the tone of narration is too "school-marm" for me.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Not finished it yet - so far I don't have one

How could the performance have been better?

better voices - narrator is trying too hard to bring emotion to the reading and its very off putting

If this book were a film would you go see it?

doubt it but then I don't go to the pictures very often

Another tense thriller

Would you listen to Little Face again? Why?

I wouldn't listen again- too many other books to listen to. And I know what happened now- The thrill is listening and trying to work out the mystery...

Who was your favorite character and why?

Simon Waterhouse in his arrogance!

Which character – as performed by Charlotte Strevens – was your favourite?

Vivienne was expressed so coldly - very skilfully I thought. All the characters are well read with no confusion about who is who.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Some aspects turned my stomach- She writes so powerfully about a woman in a vulnerable position.

Any additional comments?

I have just bought the next book!

Unremittingly miserable

Having liked other of Sophie's books I was looking forward to this, but the story was so depressing and stressful it just wasn't fun to read, even trying to work out the mystery.

Disappointing in the end.

Huge potential, but a gripping & somewhat disturbing story culminates with the ending falling flat.

Twists and turns a-plenty!

What made the experience of listening to Little Face the most enjoyable?

The interesting twists and turns and surprises...This is a really gripping story.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Little Face?

David - he took me by surprise.

What does Charlotte Strevens bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

She does voices - I like 'voices' for different characters.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I do not want to give too much away about the story - but the bathroom scene was shocking.

Any additional comments?

A thoroughly gripping story from beginning to end.

Load of codswallop

A totally annoying listen. The main character Alice is completely unbelievable - almost absurd. the narration is sub standard and the male and female voices did not sound very different. I listened to the end on the off chance it would resolve anything but it didnt:-(
