About this listen

Note to self: Just don't be weird.

Lock is awkward. He can't make eye contact, counts when he's nervous, and has to remind himself several times a day how "normal" teens behave. Homeschooled most of his life, he's resigned himself to a friendless existence at his new Atlanta high school. Until he meets West.

List of reasons why my life is a mess: How much time do you have?

West has everything. Looks. Talent. Money. And secrets...so many secrets. Beneath the surface of West's perfect existence is a pain he's buried so deep a million therapists couldn't unearth it, and he's determined to keep it that way. He's an actor. He can act normal. But then there's Lock.

Sometimes two wrongs can be right.

They don't fit. Their lives are equal but opposite disasters, and the universe just keeps throwing obstacles in their path. Every time they are together, they find it harder to say good-bye, harder to keep their secrets, harder not to lean on each other. But for this relationship to have a fighting chance, the two must stop trying to rewrite the past and start figuring out how to build a future...together.

Contains mature themes.

Tragic story of our time

Sad times of young men who find the family torn apart when husbands realise they should never have followed the rules and realise later in life and children get hurt. Thank goodness it has a happy ending but it takes a long while to get there.

Too much angst - too little romance

Struggled to finish because it was one crap thing after another!! I needed more romance, more good feelings. It s just too broken for too long.

Brilliant performance

I had already read and loved this book, but the audiobook added life and then some, elevating this to a book you lived, not just listened to. Each character was unique, and Joel Leslie managed to embodied them with a personality that matched a high schooler moving into adulthood, dealing with a range of heavy issues that could seem overly angsty, but instead are integral elements of Lock and West’s lives in a way that makes them real and authentic.

I absolutely loved both the book and audio, but this is a rare case where the audio wins out - it adds something reading alone doesn’t quite reach.

Definitely recommend.

sweet but generic

it was nice and I don't regret reading it but it wasn't any parts that had me really wanting to know what happened next. It wasn't so much focused at the two love interests and it's more about conflicts within their life and family. But overall it was still enjoyable

So much plot!

I loved the characters and the narration was really good but, if it’s possible, this story has just way too much plot. It started out strong and the dynamic between Lock and West is so interesting, but so much happens in such a short space of time it’s just trauma after trauma these poor teenagers go through that it starts to read more like a fan fic. Which is a shame because the characters and core plot are well written and i was invested in them quickly.

Superb narration

Beautiful, funny and heartbreaking.
This book really took me through the emotional wheelhouse!
Expertly narrated by Joel Leslie. I adored it. Going to listen to another written by Alexander and narrated by Joel now because they are just a perfect duo!

Just couldn’t stand the narration!

I definitely want to give this book another try since the description seems interesting to me, it’ll just have to be in paperback form! i didn’t mind the narrators voice when voicing Lock, but everyone other character grated on me too much to get through this. looking forward to giving it another go though
