Summary
Beneath the streets of London lie many secrets. Subterranean rivers carve channels through darkened caverns. Hidden laboratories and government offices from WWII offer a maze of corridors and abandoned medical experiments. Lost in the depths of this underground are the contents of a looted Spanish galleon from the days of Henry VIII and a Nazi V-2 rocket that contains the most horrible secret of all. Carmen Kingsley, in charge of London projects for the British Museum, and Scotland Yard Inspector Sherwood Peets race to unravel the mysteries behind these contents before the great city succumbs to a frightening disease not seen since the age of the Henrys - the English Sweat. It all comes to a climax beneath London with the discovery of a horrifying species of genetically altered "super rats" that threaten to invade London and the British Isles.

Good story
I really enjoyed the listen and suspecting anything is possible, when politicians and greed are involved.

Misnamed Title
Whilst the plot involved action underground in London it wasnt actually about the underground itself. Americanisms grate as well, especially as I am a Londoner.

Story is good, however some language issues
For a story set in London, you can tell that the author is an American.
For example the story has people using their pants as a rope. In the UK these are trousers and that is what the British characters would've called it. Pants in British English refers to underwear.
German characters refer to distances in feet and inches. Germans (as with the rest of mainland Europeans) have used the metric system for distances for well over a century,
A sedan was described as following another car. In British English it's a saloon.
This detracts slightly from a good storyline.

Not for me, far to typical story
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Not really, the research is weak, the story is ok, but not great. This book is set mainly in London, and was about underground London. I disliked the american terms in what I thought was book about London. Terms such as Subway not tune, gum boots, coveralls.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
Taken out the typical love angle, why do people write books where the hero and heroin fall in love at first sight and risk everything to save that person because they love them so much after three days
Would you listen to another book narrated by John Lee?
yes, he was fine, not bad with voices, however the woman character was not great voice
If this book were a film would you go see it?
no way, its not me. However think others may like it
