About this listen
Love has been driven out of our workplaces. How do we get it back in?
We're in the middle of an epidemic of stress and anxiety. Average life expectancy in the US is down. At work, less than sixteen percent of us are fully engaged. In many high-stress jobs such as distribution centers, emergency room nursing, and teaching, incidences of PTSD are higher than veterans returning from war zones.
We are getting something terribly wrong. Our workplaces fail utterly to provide for or capitalize on one of our most basic human needs: our need for love.
As Marcus Buckingham shows in this eye-opening, uplifting book, love is an energy, and it must flow. It demands expression—and that expression is "work." There's no learning without love, no innovation, no service, no sustainable growth. Love and work are inextricable.
Buckingham first starkly highlights the contours of our loveless work lives and explains how we got here. Next, he relates how we all develop best in response to another human being. What does a great work relationship look like when the other person is cued to your loves? Finally, he shows how you can weave love back into the world of work, and how to make this a discipline for the rest of your life.
Love + Work powerfully shows why love must come first at work, and how we can make this happen.

Excellent way to look at work differently
I loved this book, it was written in a way that made you think about the concepts in your own life, and ideas were real food for thought.
I think the book was well written, well read and it felt almost more a conversation rather than a lecture which some books can be.

Drawn out
A few snippets of useful advice but nothing that you couldn't get from reading a single article on the topic. Difficult to listen to the end as some of the stories / examples seem to go on forever!

Repetitive, unclear
I tried my best to tune in to this audiobook, but have not managed to understand the key message. He sounds like he knows his stuff but I cannot follow the red thread.

This is not a "#FollowYourPassions" book!
I think everyone should read this book, but I think it will resonate most with those who are a decade or more into their careers and are maybe now starting to fall out of love with the job they used to enjoy so much. It offers hope, and tangible, concrete actions one can take to find what they love and find ways to make that their work. Don't be fooled, this is not your run of the mill "follow your passions" fluff, it goes deep, with science and reasoning that will make you reconsider things you always took to be true.

Good advice
The questionnaire to identify the red threads was super useful and because of if, a lot of story embellishments around it is forgiven. I did enjoy listening to those stories but not sure they were really necessary. Reading by Marcus is great.

Simply amazing
A good critic to the current education and corporate system we live in. There's a lot of good lessons regarding life, work and of course, love. Good motivation, I came because of the Diary of a CEO podcast with Steven Bartlett. Would recommend 10/10!

life advice and not just work related
I was looking forward to this book coming out so I purchased the audio book and the hard copy to read along taking notes. I’m at the point in life Iv run my own company for almost 2 decades and navigated through the covid pandemic, so Iv been feeling lost and re-evaluating my career as many are at this time. This is a great guide to drown out the over-welling noise of life , decisions, the day to day balancing of it all and narrow it down to core life/love choices to move forward. The surprise was it’s not just work related but includes the tools to teach our children life skills and be able to see them for who they are. Im grateful to the author for pointing out these parenting skills , so I can understand my children’s loves and give them the correct support. Great book

A great look into how we think and act
This book brings a perspective that challenges our stereotyping. Covers many educational career and life roles. Widens your outlook and thinking in the’ why’ we do things.
