About this listen

The perfect Mandarin Chinese course for travel in China. It is designed to help you ask for the things you’re most likely to need when visiting China and to give you the skills to cope with situations you might find yourself in.

The accompanying free booklet is also available to download at: collinsdictionary.com/resources.

It is different from other courses in that you also learn to understand the likely replies to your questions. You will hear key words and phrases used in dialogues between native speakers, so you learn not only how to say them but also how they are used in conversation.

Topics covered:

Unit 1: Greetings
Unit 2: Attracting Attention
Unit 3: Exchanging Courtesies
Unit 4: Asking Questions
Unit 5: Where are you from?
Unit 6: Going Places
Unit 7: Asking Directions
Unit 8: Where can we eat?
Unit 9: Getting Transport
Unit 10: Ordering a drink
Unit 11: Asking for a room
Unit 12: All about food!

Critic reviews

"The first thing I noticed about this course is that the booklet is very helpful. The first few pages give tips and a pronunciation guide for Pinyin; a latinised version of Mandarin characters. It deals with everything a tourist might need to know to get by comfortably when on holiday. Well worth the money!" (K. Jamison, County Down)
"This short Mandarin course was wonderful and within a few days I'd learnt the basics of conversation (including social etiquette surrounding such conversation). Overall, a well-formulated and easy-to-use tool for learning Mandarin." (H. Dennison, Dorset)

It is truly great and the speaking was crystal clear, along with the great breakdown of the langauge and it is really useful for those who are going to China for a short holiday ( anything less than 2 weeks ) as it has all the things you will need to know such as getting drinks and food, asking where things are ( Tainanmen square , etc) and public transport.
I would give this my highest recommendation.

This has made me interested in learning languages!

I'm still sturggling with learning Mandarn, but did not find this course that easy. Dowloading the booklet helped, but still... its the tones you need the ear and some knowledge of the hanyu pinyin "alphabet" to try to make sense of how to make the sounds.

If you don't have a teacher then good luck, this is the best I've tried so far. Zai jian!

not easy

Great quality, not too fast, too slow, well explained

Any additional comments?

I really wish they had a more advanced audio book made the same way. Maybe it will come. I really hope so.

Great! But, next?
