Summary

51 BC. In the aftermath of the dreadful siege of Alesia, the tribes of Gaul lie broken and sparse, and yet the fires of rebellion still burn in the hearts of a few. As Caesar and his army continue to pacify the land wherever revolt can be found, a new conspiracy is rising.

Lucterius of the Cadurci, survivor of Alesia, seeks to raise a new great revolt, building an army in his homeland, while a small group of dangerous warriors embark upon a secret and dangerous mission to rebuild all that was lost in that great siege.

Meanwhile, Marcus Falerius Fronto tries to adjust to life as a wine merchant in Massilia, little suspecting that old friends and new will soon be fighting alongside him as the last great threat from Gaul is brought right to his door.

The final battle for Gaul is about to begin.

Excellent… again

Another great story, this series seems to grow and improve with time, yes it’s possibly a little predictable at times, but it’s good to see the heroes win and the villains suffer… if only real life could mirror art.

Fronto and co are back

Another rip roaring adventure in the life of Marcus Falerius Fronto. Somehow Turney can make the early chapters about wine merchanting as exciting as the Gallic wars! Expertly read by Malk Williams as always.

stupendous

for an 8th book in series, turney still continues to produce a tale nail-biting filled with all human feelings, even humour within violence, and there is some dark depravity at times on both sides, totally believable and engrossing characters old and new.
one thing,,, why is it taking so long to produce the next one, 9, as 13 is out in paperback?
I can't wait!!!

Continues the series in fine form

It also includes the best description of the awfulness of Roman comedy I’ve read in years!

Stirring stuff

As always Fronto is in the thick of the action. Another well crafted and brilliantly narrated instalment.

Fantastic series. Fantastic reader. The best of roman historical novels. I want to know if Caesar wins in the end...

Absolutely fascinating!

This series gets better and better all the time, and with the addition of Gallic characters which we got to know better, it was made even more interesting.
