About this listen

Discover the joy and wonder of Mary Poppins in the classic adventures!

Read by Olivia Colman, this stunning performance lifts P. L Travers’s words off the page, transporting us back to a time where classic storytelling is at the heart of any story.

When the East Wind blows Mary Poppins into the home of the Banks children, their lives go topsy-turvy and are changed forever.

More than eighty years since we first met Mary Poppins, this original, classic story is still charming listeners and transporting new fans into the mysterious world of everyone’s favourite magical nanny.

Evocatively read by the Oscar-winning star of the hit series The Crown Olivia Colman, this exquisite audio recording brings this classic story to life and is perfect for every family to share.

Absolutely brilliant. I loved it. Amazing. I really enjoyed it. I love listening to it again and again

Mostly everything

I think all story’s should be like this, the voice is so comforting and it’s amazing how she can change her voice into different characters.

Comforting

The book (as so often happens) surpasses the film, with all of Travers’ humour and imagination coming through in entirely unknown sections (my and my children’s particular favourite being the babies chapter talking to the sun and bird).
And Olivia Colman, unsurprisingly, is fantastic, I’ve been recommending it to everyone.

Utterly delightful

rather dated but still has charm. I'm glad to say that parenting has changed a great deal but there are still nannies.....

children's book?

I've read Mary Poppins and listened to it on Audible, believing I'd missed something that makes this such a loved work. I must have missed it twice. The Audible performance is great, I think Olivia Coleman really adds a dimension to this book however, for me personally, I just don't understand the love towards Mary Poppins by the public or by the cast of characters in the book? Every character treats her warmly yet she's full of contempt and arrogance throughout. I can't see why anyone would want to spend anytime with her?... I'm clearly missing a nuance of the character but, considering this is aimed at children you'd expect her to have some redeeming features besides magic?!

Great performance

The narration by Olivia Coleman is simply sublime. I’ve listened to loads of audiobooks and she is possibly one of the best. As for the story, an old classic we all know and love, and filled with wondrous nonsense. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Brilliant story telling and nonsense

It was an enjoyable experience but too short for my liking. Olivia Coleman read it beautifully and it really is a good audio book for long car journeys although, 3 hours is rather short so, if you like a bulky book, then this is not for you.
Personally I really loved it (please take note I am 11) it deserves a lot of praise and the reader has great personality and that is obvious in the characters. I disliked the voice for Michae l and found one or two of the high pitched women’s voices annoying.

Xxx 👌🏼

Good but...

I've ben willing to read Mary Poppins for quite a long time as I grew up with her magic and intelligence. Listening to Olivia Colman's outstanding performance of the different characters surely was a pleasure. A great children's story beatifully narrated by one of the best actresses of our times.
