Summary

Here is Anthony Bourdain's long-awaited sequel to Kitchen Confidential, the worldwide best seller.

A lot has changed since then - for the subculture of chefs and cooks, for the restaurant business, and for Anthony Bourdain. Medium Raw explores these changes, moving back and forth from the author's bad old days to the present.

Tracking his own strange and unexpected voyage from journeyman cook to globe-travelling professional eater and drinker, Bourdain compares and contrasts what he's seen and what he's seeing, pausing along the way for a series of confessions, rants, investigations, and interrogations of some of the most controversial figures in food. And always he returns to the question: 'Why cook?' Or the harder one to answer: 'Why cook well?'

Beginning with a secret and highly illegal after-hours gathering of powerful chefs, which he compares to a mafia summit, Bourdain, in his distinctive, no holds barred style, cuts to the bone on every subject he tackles.

Love it

love the way he tells it straight but still keeps a little hidden mystery on who people are.

Bourdain at his finest

Great, Bourdains story telling is extraordinary I would highly recommend this as a listen. If you are a chef or interested in being one this is a must.

Nice to hear his voice again…

Not as good as Kitchen Confidential, but an interesting listen. It’s clear that he had many demons…

Incredible

I have never listened to a book as fast as this one. I couldn’t wait to hear the next chapter. Captivating from start to finish.

Very enjoyable

I liked this audio, his passion for food evident. Made even better by the fact Anthony Bourdin narrated himself.

Reminiscent of Hopper

Stories about Bourdain’s life, loves, and villains. At its best the book turns you into a fly on the wall in some of the arteries of modern kitchens. Peppered with jabs at those in the industry Bourdain feels don’t do the craft justice; I found this enjoyable and heartwarming.

Medium Raw!

What’s not to love about this book written and narrated by Anthony I for one miss him terribly he is never better than here with his quick fire writing style and laugh out loud acerbic humour! He had a huge knowledge of all things food travel and it’s all BS free! 😃
I will def listen to Kitchen Confidential and Medium Raw again and again I just wish he was still with us! Thank you Tony for everything and for being you!

Classic Bourdain.

More of the Bourdain you love. Rather than a straight narrative, this is more of a meandering series of musings on everything in the cooking world. An insightful but chaotic read.

I miss this guy, a great voice for the wayward

I miss this guy, a great voice for the wayward, lost and lonely... as well as the narcacstic, maniacal and derranged.
