Summary

From 2011 up until his death at the end of 2016, the inimitable AA Gill reigned supreme as Uncle Dysfunctional, Esquire's resident advice columnist. In this raffish, hilarious, scathing yet often surprisingly humane collection, Gill applies his unmatched wit to the largest and smallest issues of our time. Whether you're struggling to satisfy your other half, having a crisis over your baldness, don't like your daughter's boyfriend or need the definitive rules on shorts, leather jackets and man-bags, AA Gill has all the answers - but you'd better brace yourself first.

Incredibly funny, valuable and often tender advice

A A Gill was one of the greatest journalists the UK has ever had to offer. This book is a compilation of hilarious, useful and often very heartfelt and heartwarming advice. You won't regret listening, especially as Armstrong brings the words to life.

AA Gill at his best

To put this in perspective he’s normally better than everyone else at his worst. Although he aims for nonchalance and elan, his words not mine, he comes across as rude, upper class and very very funny. His I’m better than you attitude is perfect for anyone who wants to feel the same way. Adieu.

Rude and amusing

Enjoyed the book. Lots of laugh out loud and outrageous advice with some underlying seriousness- I may be wrong about the last part.

Excellent!

Beautifully read by Alexander Armstrong, this book has me in stitches. AA Gill's writing is exquisite. I listened to it once and immediately started again. A real find and thoroughly recommended.

Very funny if a little too crude in places

I enjoyed this book and I did laugh out loud at times. However, it did get increasingly more crude as it progressed. I'm not really into crude humour and this spoiled it a bit for me. That's why it didn't get 5 stars. A A Gill was clearly a very clever man therefore I would have expected more cerebral humour rather than the Jimmy Carr sort of shock humour we were subjected to in this book.

Absolute Gold-Dust

This book is a gem, and has that rare quality of standing up to repeated listening.

AA Gill's Agony Uncle dispenses his unique mixture of insight, opinions and wit with such panache that you will be laughing out loud.

But it's not all risque humour and bluntness; for some of the problems sent in he comes up with realistic and workable, if a bit left field, solutions.

The uncle you always wished you'd had when growing up. Masterfully read by Alexander Armstrong. Highly recommended...

Brilliant

Ball-bouncingly funny. Not for the easily offended. If however you enjoy offence, you'll love this.

Brilliant!

Essentially, a load of puerile nonsense with added knob and fanny jokes. Excellent value for money.

Laugh out loud funny. The sentence construction, place and punctuation is a masterclass. Wrapped into the witty script are some very clever observations about the human condition from a very intelligent mind.

Armstrong's excellent voicing is perfect.

if you happen to be living in a time when the world seems to have gone mad: the government, energy companies, local authorities etc. are conspiring to drive you to despair, then this is the book you need.

JM.

OK but not my cup of tea

Alexander Armstrong was such a great narrator, I really need to listen to this in short bursts, unlike listening to novels,
