Summary

Every dog owner knows that along with the joy can come the stress and frustration of behavioral problems, which are expensive to diagnose and treat. Enter Kim Brophey, award-winning canine behavior consultant.

Using cutting-edge research, Brophey has developed a groundbreaking system that allows owners to identify what their dog is struggling with, why, and how they can fix it. Brophey's approach is unlike anything that has been published before and will give dog owners a new understanding of what motivates and affects their dog's behavior. Brophey's innovative technique rethinks the way we categorize dogs, and distills information from over 20 scientific disciplines into four comprehensive elements: learning, environment, genetics, and self. With revolutionary tips for specific dog breeds, this book will change the life of every dog owner and lead to happier human-canine relationships.

Thought provoking, informative; a must read

I first heard about Kim when she was talking about her LEGS model and I was desperate to read and learn more about her work. I was NOT disappointed. As a dog lover, owner and professional, dogs are my world and this was so thought provoking.

I would recommend this book for anyone interested in learning more about their dog and more over for anyone considering getting a dog.

Kim's thorough description and analysis of her model of categorising breeds is unique and a must read! I really think this has the power to enable you to meet the perfect dog for you and get to know your dog a little better!

I can't recommend this book highly enough.

This is no ordinary book

A really unique concept for me was introduced in this book. As I have adopted a complete mutt with terrier-like insticts I have to deal with behaviour like chasing bikes/cats/runners and also instictive fearful behaviour like barking at strangers coming towards her. As owners we need to educate ourselves so that we can understand deeper our dogs as long we have them.

Useful book for understanding all dogs

This book is great for helping people to understand the history of dogs of different breeds and what that means with regards to the way they behave. It helps to shape our expectations of them - when a terrier has been bred for generations to be a hard-hunting ratter, can we ever expect to suppress that behaviour? Moreover, should we?
This is not a book that teaches you how to train your dog - I found the few training tips rather eyebrow-raising - but nor does it pretend to be. It's more important than that, and I would suggest that the majority of dog owners would benefit from it.

A great listen

I thought I knew a lot about dogs but this really does help understand not only your own dogs but others too. You can’t always blame the owner. Loved the narration too. Highly recommend this.

Short book with disappointing little actual content

The first chapters of the book feel more like a self promotion or marketing brochure. What follows is a categorization of dog breeds which is easier googled than listened to in an audio book.
There are a few good points mentioned in the book but they could be summarized in a few pages.
