About this listen
Once upon a time, there was a guy who got so fed up with life that he resorted to murder and mayhem just to feel alive.
Lorenzo Gambini is bored. So f--king bored. Most people either annoy him or avoid him, afraid to face him. Figuratively. Literally. With his face partially disfigured, scarred, he looks every bit the monster the stories make him out to be: the notorious Scar. They say he's a sociopath. Maybe he's a psychopath. Whatever path he's on, people tend to stay far away from it.
Until one day, a young woman bumps right into him - a woman just as fed up with life, but for much different reasons. With a scarlet letter inked on her wrist and secrets buried deep in her soul, Morgan Myers is running from something...or maybe somebody. Lorenzo isn't quite sure. You can bet your ass he's going to figure it out, though.
Contains mature themes.

WHY MUST ALL GOOD THINGS COME TO AN END?!!Hands down my favourite series of books
If you’re somehow still reading reviews, debating whether it’s worth the read/ listen, JUST DO IT ALREADY I PROMISE YOU WILL NOT REGRET!!!
Lorenzo and Morgan are just the perfect characters and I freaking LOVED their dynamic, it was so powerful and felt a lot more realistic than most books (where I just end up rolling my eyes over how predictable and cliché! Ugh!)
Morgan isn’t the typical whiny, unfortunate, “virgin” pathetic little sop that most authors love to write, she’s quick, witty, fierce, feisty and a force of nature, and you truly invest in her success.
Whilst Lorenzo is just hilariously and utterly unhinged, the ultimate “bad boy” but make it “menacing man”, he just effortlessly radiates that powerful dangerous man vibe, and you kinda fall in love with his crazy, even encouraging him to be more crazy…plus I definitely cracked a few major LOLS at his dark humorous quips of his inner monologue!…it’s just so perfect!!!!!
Plus the narrator’s just freaking nailed their performances of the characters! I died and went to heaven with these books. Honestly, i was completely enthralled and consumed, I couldn’t stop, I just wanted more and more, chapter after chapter!
It’s like the author just delved into my mind and scratched all the right spots of the most thrilling fantasy, and then brought it to life!
I was so gutted when I finished this whole series, and it left me searching for another mafia/romance book that hits the same way this one did, but sadly I’ve still not found one that even comes half as close to this :(
…I wish I could listen to it for the first time all over again!!!
PLEASE MORE LIKE THIS I BEG, I BEG!!

Like a great box of chocs
This book really draws you in, dark and yet light, Sexy, sassy, witty. A twisty story -line to keep you on your toes. You will be holding your breath one minute, blushing the next and laughing out loud after that. You will love the characters not only for their written personalities but also their voices. The feisty Scarlet is shaded from blush pink to blood red with her multi faceted character well voiced by Kasha Kensington and Lorenzo or Scar as he's known is as dark and stormy as the rum he drinks neat but like all good rum there's a deep sweetness when you get past the burning heat and the superb Iggy Toma voiced life into him perfectly with his soft rich tones holding a subtle cynical undercurrent. If you want a side of dark drama with your romance that draws you in, keeps you listening and gets you rushing for the sequel then this is for you!

A MAFIA FEEL ROMANCE. IT WAS EXCITING
Well, that was exciting, I loved this book, the characters and the anticipation of what was going to happen next all the way through.
Menace had that mafia feel to it although Lorenzo Gambini or Scar as he is called is not a mafia boss, he's not exactly a guy who's on the straight and narrow either, he has his men at the click of his fingertips and Lorenzo is a man other men fear.
Lorenzo is the man with a scar, a crook, a villain but also a loving brother, Lorenzo is a man of layers who firmly keeps the mask on and hides behind the scar.
Morgan or Scarlet as Lorenzo starts to call her due to a letter S on her wrist is a woman with backbone, she's is on the run and works in a club, Morgan is also a woman with many layers, she's strong and resilient, I liked Morgan's character.
Morgan and Lorenzo first meet in a bar and she pickpockets him, he finds her and if it were any other person they would be dead but something about Morgan draws him to her, he is curious and her fiery character he finds refreshing. Morgan stands with her head high were other men would cower, Morgan is different and shows no fear.
The two are thrust together again when Morgan's past comes to find her and Lorenzo takes her under his wing.
Menace is a great story it's exciting, I loved Lorenzo he can be funny without meaning to be and he's so smooth.
I loved how Lorenzo addresses the reader, listening to this on audio it really brought the book to life, even more, when you have a character that also talks to the reader even though it may have been Lorenzo saying something like "I'm not sure what you're laughing at either". Its not much but I loved how JM Darhower has done that.
Menace is a two-part book and like all two-part story's you are just getting all the answers to your questions, things are just getting even more interesting and then it's finished.
Menace is hot with some sizzling scenes, filled with suspense and interesting characters, it has the element of dark and a mafia feel. It was great I loved it.
I am definitely reading book 2 I can't wait to jump into that one, I have it on my kindle unlimited and then I downloaded the audio for £2.99, Bargain.

Different, but kept me listening.
Not a book I would normally pick, but I found the plot intriguing, would possibly listen to more by this author.

Wow! A Dark Rollercoaster
This is the first time I have tried this author and it definitely won't be the last.
I wasn't sure what I would find and it started off being quite a bit too dark for me and I wasn't sure whether I could handle it.
What made me continue was Lorenzo's sense of humor (although he is known as this terrifying psycho) and the fact that he does have an albeit weird moral compass.
Of all the people in New York, Morgan decides to pick Lorenzo's pocket and he is just gobsmacked; and so commences their interesting relationship.
Morgan has had a terrifying existence with the Russian mafia and she is basically on the run from a man obsessed with her and Lorenzo turns out to be, in his own strange way, her knight in shining armour even though he runs the New York underworld .
The narration is superb and if you can get through the disturbing way that she is treated, how she manages to survive by hook line and sinker, this is an incredible duet and I highly recommend it.
It is definitely not for the faint hearted or for anyone with ANY triggers as there are many, but what a ride!

Loved Lorenzo
I was bored and out of credits so I thought I'd give this a try, and it did not disappoint. I was hooked after a few minutes. Both characters are intriguing but, Lorenzo was the character I needed to know more about. Realistically, it would be terrifying to meet someone like Lorenzo but, the author (and narrator) gave him a charismatic persona which is difficult to ignore and hard to dislike. Even when I really shouldn't have, I found myself laughing out loud at some of the things he did/said. As the story unfolded I accepted his cold detached view of the world, and found myself rooting for him to do what he does best to help Morgan.
