About this listen

With the holidays approaching, amateur sleuth Geneva Pomolo takes a minor role in a community theatre’s musical stage adaptation of A Christmas Carol. A lifelong Dickens fan, Geneva is hoping for a calm respite from the rigors of crime-solving, but her stage debut proves anything but calming. The cast is stacked with powerful egos who have deluded themselves into thinking they deserve a career in Hollywood — such as Peter Vankirk, who lands the starring role of Ebenezer Scrooge against his rival, Reginald Overt, and Annie Rigbee, a young actress who spends her ample free time practicing her autograph.

When Peter is found lying dead in a garden, every person involved in the play becomes a suspect. In spite of Peter’s theatrical gifts (or perhaps because of them), everyone had a reason for wanting him dead. As Geneva and her partner Iris investigate the killing, they uncover a trail of secrets suggesting that this Scrooge led a double life.

As tempers flare and bad spirits fester, Geneva senses that Christmas is going to be anything but cheerful. But even she can’t foresee how bad things will get....

Christmas chaos

I really enjoyed this book, its a cute little listen, with warm, enjoyable characters and a fast paced storyline. although it's part of a series using preestablished characters, you do not need to have read or heard any of the books before this one to enjoy the story. it is a well written stand alone story.

The characters and well rounded feel like the sort of people you could really meet in this sort of setting. The warmth of the main character and her growth of overcoming her preconceived ideas about some of the people she meets is a nice development.

I liked that the cast of characters were older but still youthful, although Anna Caputo does a great job of narrating the book and bringing the personalities to life within the story, it is a shame that an older voice wasn't used to give it a bit more resonance with the characters in the story. Caputo is a wonderful narrator and definitely brings out the sense of mischief that the main characters have.

"A merry Christmas to all"

Donna Muse has written an amusing short cozy mystery murder with excellent lead characters: 50 something, Geneva Pomolo, her clumsy and accident prone assistant, Iris, and friend George. With those two beside her it is a wonder that Geneva gets anything done! After assisting the local museum, Geneva is invited to take part in the local production of A .Christmas Carol, but when the leading .man is murdered, it's time to investigate again.
My thanks to the rights of Merry Christmas and Murder, who, at my request, freely gifted me with a complimentary copy via Audiobook Unlimited,
An easy and undemanding short (under 2 hours) story, excellently narrated by Anna Caputo, which is over far too quickly.

The show must go on

I enjoyed this short cosy mystery. The only reason it gets a four star and not a five star review is because I wish it had been long. I felt you just got to know the characters and then it was over but it is great if you only have a few hours. I have listened to a few of the books in this series and I am not sure where this one comes in the series but as each book book is a stand alone book it doesn't matter. The story is fun in the fact the characters are slightly older than the normal sleuths in cosy mysteries and I think this works really well for this series as it leads to some interesting and fun situations. The characters are great, I especially liked the way Iris's date turned out. The story is different in the fact that it starts with the pair wrapping up a case before getting involved in another one .This is a series I will be keeping an eye out for because it is a lot of fun.
When Geneva and Iris wrap up another case there notoriety gets them noticed and Geneva gets a phone calling asking her preform in a local production of Scrooge and Iris gets a date, is she about to find love?. When Geneva arrives for a rehearsal she is surprised to find that the drama isn't limited to the stage. With a number of stars and drama queens on stage emotions run high. So high that it leads to the death of the leading actor. Can Geneva and Iris find the killer? Or is it the final call for the pair?
I liked the narrator she did a good job with all the different voices needed to bring this story to life.
