In this unnamed city, to be interesting is dangerous. Middle sister, our protagonist, is busy attempting to keep her mother from discovering her maybe-boyfriend and to keep everyone in the dark about her encounter with Milkman. But when first brother-in-law sniffs out her struggle, and rumours start to swell, middle sister becomes 'interesting'. The last thing she ever wanted to be. A touching ending
I felt this book was following me. Everywhere I went for about a week I saw it. So I bought it not really knowing what to expect.
There was a lot in this book I could relate to my own teenage years. How things that should never have been acceptable, were. My own personal experiences made this thought provoking and sometimes upsetting to read but I enjoyed it
Read so well, some people you could listen to forever. This one for me.

Amazing
What a delightful audiobook to listen to. It took a short while to get into the rhythm but once I was there I could not stop listening, I was sad when it ended. I am definitely going to buy the actual book. Fantastic!

No Maybes - this is so good!
This is my maybe best audible book I’ve listened to for a long time, a really long time going way back long time.
Author, Anna Burns, had me listening while walking and laughing while getting the notion of how lives were, over the road, over the water in that other country over there.
I’ve told my longest friend, all my book-friends and new found friends that if they haven’t read Milkman yet then they should or listen to it: it’s a great introduction to audible books.
Simply clever, full of observations, full of humour, full of telling it like it is, of the times, of the events, of the gossip and of the suspicions.
Do pick up the Milkman, listen to it’s outstanding narration or even read it while walking why don’t you.

funny ,witty but intense .

My Favourite Audio Book of all time. honestly
I can't recall ever enjoying an audiobook as much as this. Fabulous. The author brings this story so much to life that I felt I was actually part of the story as a silent observer.

Stunning work.
If you want a paychological insight into intergenerational trauma (in this case re the Northern troubles) and the collateral effects of trauma on broader society listen to this book. Its particularly strong in audio form as Anna's voice and expression makes the story even more evocative, intense and compelling.

intriguing story but took me a while to get into
I really struggled to finish this book. There is something beautiful about hearing the novel read out by the author, and I loved the characters, but I found the repetition and slowness frustrating at times. I found the book more engaging near the end, but it was a bit of a slog to get to that point.

Fantastic
I didn’t expect to enjoy the narration but it brought a lot of character to the book and I’m really glad I listened. It’s brilliantly written, funny and enlightening. I’ll be recommending it to a lot of people. Definitely one of my favourite books I’ve read in the past couple of years.

Quite a gem really
I was enjoying this but had to listen to a bit at a time to focus on what was being said and the rhythm.
There was one point that I wanted to give up and get a refund but glad I perservered and in the end really enjoyed this. Quite poetic really and love the use of language.

A case of the audiobook elevating the book.
The narration by the author, strongly-accented, at first seeming unemotional, is darkly funny and brings the book to life in a way I found addictive. I started hearing her voice even when reading the text.
