About this listen
When I—along with my best friend and his big purple monster boyfriend—come across a fortress-like raider camp while journeying across the monster-infested Wastes, we stop to deliver a message.
Somehow, that simple pit stop turns into a seemingly impossible quest to get this camp's missing leader out of the prison where he's being held and forced to fight monsters and other humans. I know exactly where it is because I've been there.
Problem is, I'm making this journey with the prickliest and most arrogant guy I've ever met, who seems to hate me on sight. Oh, and he's also half-monster. So there's that. And he's in love with a raider who definitely does not love him back, and he seems determined to take it out on me. So there's also that.
I'm not going to rise to his childish insults and barbed words. I'm not. I'm also going to try very hard to ignore how mind-numbingly beautiful he is, even when he's scowling at me.
The longer we're out here together, the more I learn about my prickly half-monster companion Moth. I realize there's a reason he's so closed off and angry. There's a reason he hates everyone.
There are secrets he's been keeping, and when I find out what they are, I want to do everything in my power to help him—even though he's telling me he can't be helped.
Moth is book five of the Monstrous series, a post-apocalyptic m/m fantasy series that features monsters and human men falling in love. It is best to listen to the series in order.
Contains mature content.

I loved how the relationship between Moth and Charlie grows throughout the book.
Now I’m off to preorder book 7: Seraph.
Moth is definitely worth buying!

Moth volunteers to go to the human/Monster fighting prison to try and rescue Cat so that Ghost won't feel obligated to be the one who does it and Charlie decides to tag along and that is how we find ourselves along for the ride of these two wandering the wastes, avoiding the military & fighting and saving each other from other monsters. Charlie knows there is more to Moth than meets the eye, especially after Moth seemingly vanishes out of nowhere to only suddenly reappear just as abruptly but injured. Where did he go? Why? And who hurt him?
This book tugs on your heartstrings, Moth is so insecure about both his monster & human sides as he has been abandoned and rejected throughout his life and faces judgement and scorn from both sides and because of this he fears Charlie will be repulsed by his monster body & reject him too. What Moth has been through and how that has shaped him into who he is is heartbreaking and he needed someone with patience, tenacity, gentle & understanding and Charlie is all of those things. The way these two come together is a delicious slow burn on the emotional connection front but they absolutely combust with their chemistry & physical connection, Charlie has it bad for Moth and adores him, his body, tail, scales and all! This was another fantastic edition to this series and I can't believe each one has been a 5 star read for me so far, the world building, characters, overall storyarc & spice is always on point and I am thoroughly enjoying this series. 🌶🌶🌶🌶

The narrator, Michael Lesley also deserves all the praise. His voice work is absolutely fantastic & that he's able to voice so many different accents, voices, intonation, etc... is just out of this world. Wyn's voice is still my absolute favourite, but the others are also really good!
OK, just as I believed that the author had gutted me with Gloam's story... she then completely eviscerated me with Moth's backstory & how much he'd suffered throughout his life, until he meets wonderful, lovable, happy-go-lucky Charlie 😍😍
These 2 WERE made for each other... I'm totally in love with both of them & their love story. Honestly, I could gush for hours about these 2.
I loved the love progression & that it took so very long for the relationship to blossom. Poor Moth really did need that adjustment period & Charlie was just what he needed as he was so patient, understanding & accommodating.
There was only one negative for me in this book. I understand that it was for the whole, forced proximity concept to work, but it was executed poorly in my opinion.
This is at the very beginning of the book, so not a spoiler... but, I honestly did not get why Edin & Hunter decided to stay at the camp. That made no sense whatsoever.
I think for me, it would've only worked if on the way to the camp, Hunter had gotten hurt in some way, so he couldn't walk long distances.
Him choosing to let his friend go alone to the place he was incarcerated before with a stranger, didn't really make any sense nor did it fit what we know about Hunter & his friendship with Charlie. They were partners & always had each other's back. Also, Edin adores Charlie, so I doubt that he'd let him go off without following unless there was a really good reason for it.
It took Wyn, Hunter AND Edin to break Charlie out of jail & they all realised how impenetrable it was... so, why would they make the choice to stay behind & it's not as though the prison was just round the corner, it was a long journey that would last days & they'd encounter numerous monsters/military along the way.
I think either Hunter hurt or they all set off together, then something happens, where Edin & Hunter need to go in a separate direction would've een more feasible, but it made no sense that Edin & Hunter would let their beloved Charlie go alone, with a stranger whose abilities they don't really know, on such a dangerous expedition where more hands on deck were required.
That was a biggie in my opinion & always at the front of my mind whenever Moth & Charlie REALLY needed help, so it was glaring IMO...
But, YAY.... Wyn is BACK... I've honestly missed him these past 2 books. He's my absolute favourite & I always want more of him & on every single book 😁
Charlie, Chuck & Moth 😍😍😍

After being a bit disappointed with the previous books, I was eagerly expecting this book to rekindle the love I had for the first book. And it did!
With an increased speed turning this almost 16hrs long audiobook into around 7hrs, I read it in one setting and I didn't see time going by due to my enjoyment.
A part of me feels like not much happened in the book but I didn't really care because I love the characters and their moments together. I was also nicely surprised to have more than one chapter from Moth's pov (but he's half-human so I guess it made sense).
Loved it
