My favourite audiobook ever. The story is one of her best. But narrator Hugh Fraser takes it into another class altogether. He manages to make it feel like a full cast dramatisation. I really forgot it was one person. Outstanding. It's an acting master class. I am in awe! What a brilliant actor. I've always loved his work, especially as Poirot's sidekick Hastings, but this tops the lot. Marvellous.

Never a disappointment

This story contains everything I like in Agatha Christie: the deceivingly idyllic little village, the overlooked details, the red herrings... and a very satisfying conclusion. The reader does a fantastic job of creating the atmosphere of that time and place.

This appeared to be a very long book; it wasn't, but I kept falling asleep. However, I was sufficiently interested in the plot to rewind and listen again. I remedied the issue by listening whilst doing housework. It all began quite simply with Poirot investigating a possible miscarriage of justice. It became more complicated with the discovery of a newspaper article. There were a lot of characters; probably all necessary as red herrings. Hugh Fraser narrated well except for his portrayal of Ariadne Oliver; his voice for her is just wrong, as it is in all his audio recordings in which she features. The plot was realistic. The ending was neat. However, it seems unlikely that Poirot would subject himself to such uncomfortable accommodation, way beneath his usual standards, for the sake of the investigation; surely there would have been a hotel nearby.

Amazing characterisation from Hugh Fraser. He really is an excellent narrator. Story was a little convoluted at times but still a triumph. I have been a Christie fan since my teens but never tire of her. More of Hugh please! As always the story had lots of interesting characters and the plot was terrific. I shall be listening to many more books by Agatha in future. A bit of "yesteryear" - I loved it.
