About this listen

A gripping British cosy crime mystery with a mysterious death and a village full of secrets...

MAISIE COOPER IS NO DETECTIVE, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

BUT SHE MIGHT JUST SOLVE A MURDER...

Maisie left the picture-perfect village of Framlington years ago. But when her brother asks for her help out of the blue she soon finds herself back among the windy lanes and open green fields. But it's not the family reunion she hoped for - upon arrival she learns that she's too late. Stephen is dead. And not just dead - murdered.

Frustrated by the slow police investigation headed up by handsome Sergeant Wingard, Maisie determines to start asking questions herself. In a village where everyone knows everyone, surely someone has some information about Stephen. But the longer Maisie stays, and the deeper she digs, the more she begins to sense something sinister at the heart of the village. What secrets are the residents so desperate to keep hidden? And what exactly was her brother going to tell her before his mysterious demise?

And when another death rocks the community, Maisie fears that she needs to catch the killer before they catch her...

I can see why people have been put off by the narration; it veers from soothingly mellifluous to weirdly robotic! However, the story is fairly absorbing and twisty, lots of likeable characters along with the, nicely hateable, out and out villains! I saw a review on book 2 indicating the narration is much improved, so I will stick with it.

Good story, especially if you remember the 70s! Patchy narration

Good plot, believable characters with both talents and flaws. Look forward to more soon please

Enjoyed the story and would like to listen to more in the series, but the narration makes me reluctant. Over ennunciation made the narration irritating throughout.

Spoilt by narrator

Really enjoyed this book! The narration was great, the plot was good, and the characters were charming (even the un-charming ones).

Fantastic!

Too many characters and the story did not grip me. Don't think I'll get any more books by this author

Disappointed

Overall, a fabulous listen. The characters were well represented and the plot well constructed. One little irksome niggle was the narration. There were times, mainly when speaking as a character, when it was very stilted and really was off putting. Hopefully this will improve in the following books as the narrator gets into her stride. X

Overall fabulous, just one wee niggle.

This is a well written intriguing story set in a very recognisable period of the 1970's in England. All the characters are well drawn and the end is most satisfying. I came across this writer by chance and am going to seek out more fiction by him , particularly Daisy Cooper and the people she encounters.

Maisie Cooper is a wonderful character.

Brilliant story

A story of unfolding intrigue.. Great characterisation. Not highbrow, or super intellectual but a jolly good story that unfolds as out heroine pieces together information and vital parts of the mystery of her brothers murder.

Enjoyable story... Easy listening... Excellent reading, presentation and performence by reader.

A great, old school murder mystery with good pace, some subtle humour and great attention to detail. The narration was rather wooden, but strangely didn’t lessen the enjoyment of the story.

Thoroughly entertaining!
