About this listen

One of the Claridge's kitchen porters is found dead—strangled. He was a recent employee who claimed to be Romanian, but evidence suggests he may have been German. Detective Chief Inspector Coburg has to find out exactly who he was, and what he was doing at Claridge's under a false identity. Once he has established those facts, he might get an insight into why he was killed, and who by.

Coburg's job is complicated by the fact that so many of the hotel's residents are exiled European royalty. King George of Greece is registered as 'Mr Brown' and even the Duke of Windsor is staying, though without Wallis Simpson. Clandestine affairs, furtive goings-on and conspiracies against the government: Coburg must tread very lightly indeed.

Loved it. The way the story is read is excellent, making it a really interesting listen, putting real emotion into the story's participants. The forth in of the series I've listened to, and loved them all.

Another great listen.

Listened to most of them back to back. Great stories. And very well read. The underground and Hotel stories overlap and form a contiuam of the main characters. Been jumping back and forth. Odd. But not an issue. All good. My bad news is the three or so I have left to listen to are read by two of my least favourite narrators. Gutted! But you may be okay with them. All well worth a credit

Great Series

I’ve enjoyed the whole series and hope the author writes more books. The narration is superb, which adds to the drama and excitement.

Thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook

I have really enjoyed this story and all the stories in the Hotels series. Please please could we have more stories with DCI Coburg and his wife Rosa and Sergeant Lampson. I really would like to know how the characters progress. Great narration from David Thorpe.

Brilliant story and great characters

I have now enjoyed all six Coburg novels (albeit I read them in reverse! The Tube murders before the hotel murders) all six are wonderful listens & I cannot recommend highly enough. As you know in any audiobook the narrator is key and in my opinion David is the best there is - I cannot wait for the next book coming in February!

Another fantastic book by Jim
