Stereotype cookie cutter

Not much to say about it. Same same. Personally won’t bother with following books in the series.
Narrator had good diction and a pleasant voice so that was a plus

That the author could tell a wholesome story without blasphemy or crude language! what a great listen!

Humour, crime and life. I can not wait to listen to the books of this author.

Average story

The reading seemed rather poor to me., Words like 'soddering iron' and very quick from one chapter to the next. The story was ok but not a real page turner. Not one that i would recommend.

Better read the book!

I have read all the books in this series, which, although never going to win a booker prize, kept me entertained and interested enough to find out what would happen to the main character at the end of the series. I got the audio book because it was free and some time since I’d read the books so thought I’d give it a whirl. These books have been very let down by extremely poor narration, I can’t believe how many mispronunciations of simple every day words there were, and how such mistakes could be made by someone who makes a living by narrating audio books. Someone else mentioned the ‘soddering iron’, which was hilarious, but many other words mispronounced or the emphasis placed on the wrong syllables, which is vastly irritating. Does anyone actually listen to these books before they are released? I’m glad I didn’t pay for it.

The awful Narrator stood out!

Can someone tell this Narrator that the full stop means 'take a breath' 🙄🙄

She rattled through the story at a break neck speed and all In one long monotone. It was hard work. The story was OK, not sure I would listen to anymore.

Well performed but…

This book is well performed even if there are one or two miss-pronounced words. The story, and way it’s written, makes the reader (listener) believe it’s set in the 1970s or 80s, when it’s actually set in the 2010s or maybe later. The language used is old fashioned and outdated. The story is fairly tame and nothing particularly unexpected happens. It’s enjoyable to a point but I wouldn’t give it a second read.

So so story. Oddly pronounced words.

Rather mundane story. Didn’t feel engaged with any of the characters. The narrator mispronounced several words ( eg soddering iron ) which further distracted.

good twist at the end!

Writer didn't have a very good understanding of the canal community or boater jargon.
Reader really needs to spend time in the south Wales valleys, about 5 years, to get any grasp of the Welsh accent and some English words were pronounced as if she had never heard them, just seen them and was making it up as she went along!
