Summary
Mortui vivos docent. The dead teach the living.
After watching my mother succumb to a mysterious illness, I promised myself two things. I'd find the cure for what ravaged her and leave the godforsaken city where she abandoned me.
Four years later, I received an acceptance letter from Dracadia University, one of the oldest most prestigious schools in the country. Nestled on a secluded island off the coast of Maine, it's rumored to be haunted by the souls of the mental patients exiled there centuries before, those whose bones are said to make up the island's white sandy shores.
And restless ghosts aren't even its most daunting peculiarity.
Devryck Bramwell, known on campus as Doctor Death, is a brilliant pathologist in charge of the midnight lab. He's also my devastatingly handsome professor, who seems to loathe tenacious first-years like me. Except his dark and enigmatic gaze tells me all the ways he'd devour me if given the chance, and his stolen kisses burn my lips with forbidden jealousy.
I crave his authority.
He aches for redemption.
Together, we're toxic. Delicious fodder for the prying eyes hellbent on exhuming the rotted skeletons of our pasts.
For the dead have much to teach, and it's only a matter of time before Dracadia's most depraved secret is resurrected.
Nocticadia is a standalone dark academia tale of deadly secrets and forbidden love.

Dark academia meets dark romance
This was absolutely amazing! So perfect for the Autumn/spooky season. If you love gothic, dark academia with gore and macabre scenes combined with a deliciously slow burn dark romance, then this is a must read. I'll be shouting at everyone to read this and the audibook was absolute perfection!

Great horromantasy
Wow. I've never read anything like this book. It's like a (very) twisted mash-up of Lolita, Election, and a Nancy Drew mystery (plus the train from Harry Potter).
It wasn't just narrated, it was performed - and the performance was GREAT.
The detail in the medical/pathological side of the story, really seemed to elevate the whole plot, too.
My only gripe was that everybody's brows 'winged up' all the time

Amazing story and performance
I absolutely adored this duet narrated, tension-filled, mysterious and exciting audiobook. The story had me hooked instantly and the performance by Aaron Shedlock and Stella Hunter was superb. Dark Academia is generally not my preferred genre, but this was so so good. Will be checking out Keri Lakes other books too, for sure.

Just fantastic
This was my first foray into dark academia. I loved the gothic vibes. I loved there was a story, a proper story with a good level of spice. I loved that the author must have done a lot of research into the scientific aspects of the parasite. I devoured this in just a few days. When a book makes me find cleaning in my house to keep listening..... I know it's good. Bought my second Keri Lake book before this even finished.

Duel narration at its best
The duel narration was perfect and the narrators really got me hooked to the characters and story. Bit annoying that the chapter numbers of the book don’t match the chapter numbers of the audiobook

Absolutely fantastic!
Um excuse me how has this book been out since 2023 and I’ve only been recommended it now?
It had me absolutely enthralled! The writing was fantastic so I could really envisage everything described and the plot had me squirming, gasping, eyes bulging, laughing and just utterly entertained!
If you haven’t read this yet then you are in for a treat!
