Summary

'This is Littlehaven. Nothing ever happens here. Until the spotlight hits my family.'

Izzy's family is under the spotlight when her dad comes out as Danielle, a trans woman. Izzy is terrified her family will be torn apart. Will she lose her dad? Will her parents break up? And what will people at school say? Izzy's always been shy, but now all eyes are on her. Can she face her fears, find her voice and stand up for what's right?

Content warning: in Nothing Ever Happens Here, the narrator, Izzy, initially struggles to understand and accept her dad's transition. Listeners should be aware that there is some misgendering and discriminatory language used towards the start of the book, as this expresses Izzy's (and other characters') understanding at that point in the story. As Izzy's reactions change and her awareness grows, the language changes to reflect this.

Wonderful

This should be part of the National Curriculum. So many different types of emotional growth and experiences are traversed through this amazing story. The empathy I felt for the main characters was immense. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this book. Thank you Sarah

Good listen

Easy and palatable story that would be useful for both teenagers and adults alike who are new to lgbtq+ issues.

Beautiful, thoughtful and engaging

Such a beautiful book. Very well read. Story was crisp and very engaging. I am not a young adult. Rather older I am afraid. But I absolutely would reread it. This is a difficult subject and has been handled beautifully. Read it in one seating. Love it.

Brilliant LGBTQ story for all ages

Loved listening to this book. A story about a young girl and her experiences. Eventhough I’m no longer young and identify as non-binary I loved listening to this story. Well worked out, great characters, great narration. At the end there are great resources available.

Eye opener

This is a great book to listen to. It presents all the struggles of LGBTQ people.
I must admit that sometimes is still a shock when a friend comes out, not because I am against it at all, but because I didn’t recognized the signs and haven’t been there for them through their struggles.
I wonder if the new generation will be more accepting than this one. I know we made huge progress but we are not there yet.
I really hope that this book will reach many people.
