About this listen
Winner, Earphones Award 2020
Five long-missing children are about to be returned.
It was summer in the mountains when five small children vanished from their nursery school picnic. The heat was stifling that day, the tinkle of an ice-cream van in the air....
Three-and-a-half years later, in the dead of winter, the children are returned to their families...one by one.
All except for Ivy - the granddaughter of Homicide Detective Kate Wakeland. The other four children say Ivy is dead.
Speculation grows that the mysterious abductor is enacting a cruel revenge plot due to a murderer that Kate put in jail years before.
Kate isn't sure what to believe. But one thing is certain - she's about to begin the battle of her life. When the children were first stolen, she was prevented from investigating the case.
But now, Kate will be relentless in uncovering the identity of the abductor and discovering what happened to Ivy.

Satisfying Listen
This longer book was so satisfying - it meant that a full conclusion to the story could was presented which I loved. Characters believable and the story/mystery, captivating.
I originally found the narrator annoying but as the story went on, I could hear how skilled she was with all the different characters. but the time I finished the book, I really liked her voice.

I love the longer length audio books and this one didn't disappoint with all its twists and turns.
This is the third book I have had from this talented author and I fully intend to read all she has written.

Have to suspend belief but enjoyable
This is a long a book and I’m wouldn’t have chosen it if iTunes not been for the narrator who is one of my favourites and I have loved everything she has read. The story is compelling and challenging due to the subject of children being kidnapped. However the narration brings a tone that overcomes what could be unbearable to listen too. I binged it. Even though the outcome was a little unbelievable, but then so often is life.

Good yarn
I enjoyed the story and the narrator was very good. The central character is engaging and I did care about her.
I think it was a bit too long and I left it wanting to know more about Abby’s secret.

Interesting story, disappointing heroine
The storyline kept me listening, and I would have given up if not for that. Unfortunately, I disliked Kate’s character, so will not be listening to the other books in the series.
