Summary

Loyalty and betrayal, hope and despair,
One Moonlit Night tells the captivating story of a husband and wife separated by secrets as well as by war.

Accept it, he is dead.
No, it’s not true.
It is. Everyone thinks so except you.

Forced to leave their family home in London after it is bombed, Maddie and her two young daughters take refuge at Knyghton, the beautiful country house in Norfolk where Maddie’s husband Philip spent the summers of his childhood.

But Philip is gone, believed to have been killed in action in northern France. Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, Maddie refuses to give up hope that she and Philip will some day be reunited.

Arriving at Knyghton, Maddie feels closer to her missing husband, but she soon realises that there’s a reason Philip has never spoken to her about his past. Something happened at Knyghton one summer years before. Something that involved Philip, his cousin Lyle and a mysterious young woman named Flora.

Maddie’s curiosity turns to desperation as she tries to discover the truth, but no one will speak about what happened all those years ago, and no one will reassure her that Philip will ever return to Knyghton.

The extraordinarily powerful new novel from bestselling author Rachel Hore.

Enjoyable

I enjoyed this book and Sandra Duncan
very good as always but I didn’t think it was Rachel Hores best. None of the characters really stood out except perhaps the Fleggs! A light read though for exercising or doing housework to!

Good storyline and well read

An interesting storyline that captured the mood of the war quite well. Felt quite disappointed with the end.

Good

Whilst this is a good story it did seem to drag a bit. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed it, and there were a few twists and turns that kept me from giving up. Maybe I just prefer a slightly faster pace story.

Enjoyable saga

A long story but entertaining. Enjoyed the narration although the voices of Grace and Sarah the children were a bit irritating. Would recommend

Great story

Loved the many sub plots. Vibrant characters historically well researched. Looking forward to listening to more of her books.

GOOD BUT OVERLONG

I enjoyed this book but felt it was overlong and the kidnapping sub plot weird and out of place . Also Maddie seemed completely wrapped up in her youngest child with the older girl (despite being very young too) being mentioned only in passing . The ending was very disappointing and somewhat predictable.

Absolutely wonderful!

I have listened to few books by Rachel Hore, and this is definitely my favourite so far. Such a lovely, touching story, vividly portraying life during the Second World War, both in England and in France.
I did think that the narrator's voice was somewhat old and husky sounding for the main character of Maddie, but that didn't spoil my overall enjoyment of the book.

Great story

I have never listened to a book by this author & was pleasantly surprised. The story kept me wanting to listen with its several sub plots. Characters very believable. The narration was excellent & kept the book alive. I would certainly recommend.

Interesting, evocative and full of emotion.

Would like to hear more by this author. A real page turner, but very sad.I had a feeling that Philip and Sophie's love affair would bear fruit and wasn't at all surprised by the ending, just saddened by Philip 's early demise.
