Summary

Short-listed for the Costa Children's Book Award 2016

Not cool enough, not clever enough, not street enough for anyone to notice me. I was the kid people looked straight through. Not anymore. Not since Mr Orange.

Sixteen-year-old Marlon has made his mum a promise - he'll never follow his big brother, Andre, down the wrong path. So far it's been easy, but when a date ends in tragedy, Marlon finds himself hunted. They're after the mysterious Mr Orange, and they're going to use Marlon to get to him. Marlon's out of choices. Can he become the person he never wanted to be, to protect everyone he loves?

Really enjoyed this book and think it’s a great one for young adults to read to really make them think about consequences of gang life

Oustanding and heartbreaking

This book was beautifully crafted. It made me think hard about the extent of my privilege. The main characters were so likable and relatable and the plot was absolutely gripping. The actor did a fantastic job of bringing each character to life. This is recommended to EVERYONE.

Loved this book, finished it very quickly. the narrator was brilliant and diverse which really brought it all to life. the story gets a bit frustrating in places, but I suppose that was the intension!
Definitely recommended, best book I've 'read' in a while.

Can't make up my mind...

Brilliant for about 4/5 of the the book and then loses its way as it has to find an acceptable ending - when in reality, the main character would still be living with the uncertainty his situation had created. Get advice from someone else as to whether you should read this or not!
