About this listen

'A must-read for everyone' Stylist
'Tender, emotive and quietly revelatory' Irish Times
'Distinctive, original . . . Louie's approach to childless lives is thoughtful and empathetic' Caroline Magennis, author of Harpy: A Manifesto for Childfree Women

Who are you? What does your life look like? Did you choose this, or did it happen to you? How do you spend your time? And your energy? And your money? Are you happy? Are you scared? Are you lonely? Do you regret not having kids? If yes, why? If not, why not?

Others Like Me is the story of fourteen women around the world, from different walks of life, who don't have children. It's also the story of why Nicole Louie had to find them and what they taught her. Part memoir, part exploration of childlessness through candid conversations, this book showcases the many ways in which people find fulfilment outside of parenthood. And because the social expectation to procreate weighs the most on women, Louie focuses solely on them, their experiences and how they flourish outside of motherhood. In doing so, she upends the stereotypes that diminish women who are not mothers and offers reassurance and companionship on a path less known.

Nicole has a wonderful flow when she reads. The story is informative and I would defy anyone with an ounce of humanity not to be moved by how bare and vulnerable the author lays herself. Thank you so much for your honesty and openness and the hours and hours of research and rewriting this masterpiece

As a male who listened to this with his girlfriend, I found this incredibly readable, entertaining, and moving.

Others Like Me tells the story of multiple women who decided to be child free, including the writer herself. As you go through the very relatable stories, you get this feeling of respect to all women and their personal life choices. I’m someone who had previously decided not to have children but changed my mind later in life, and even though I’m not child free, I still felt seen and part of a community of women who question societal expectations. I particularly enjoyed listening to this book on audible as it felt like listening to a friend.

Really enjoyed this book. Couldn’t stop listening and finished it over the course of three days. Worth a listen if you like autobiographies narrated by the author and/or have an interest in the lives of child free women.

Authentic, poignant and emotional. 10/10

The book came as a recommended title as I, too, am navigating the ambivalence of motherhood and by now have read at least 5 books on the topic. I couldn't put this one down. Every word felt real and the rawness of it kept me connected and interested in the unfolding story. The writing was so heartfelt... I can't wait to read Nicole's next book. Thanks for writing about this dilemma and sharing your story alongside the stories of other women. This was a very inspiring book.

Beautifully written

I would’ve loved to have spoken to her myself as a child free woman, and give my perspective.

The honest vulnerability yet steely resolve of Nicole in her decision to not have children is inspiring.
