About this listen
Max Maldonado loves baseball. He knows playing first base at a private college probably won’t get him to the big leagues, but he doesn’t mind. He loves the game and his teammates. If he has to stay in the closet until he graduates, that’s okay. Baseball comes first. Relationships are complicated anyway. And after his recent messy breakup, Max prefers to keep things simple.
Phoenix Bell is a fabulous theater geek. He’s excited about his recent transfer to a new school with an elite liberal arts program. Life has been on hold for a while, but this opportunity feels like the fresh start he was hoping for when he moved to California. And the chance reunion with the hot closeted jock is an unexpected surprise. The two men have nothing in common and their timing couldn’t be worse. However, when their unconventional alliance blossoms into friendship and perhaps something more, it may be time to make some hard decisions. And perhaps risk it all…out in the field.

love this as both ebook and audio.
Another winner from Ms Hayes. I love this series so much. Each book is just so different, there's hardly any angst in this one, and so many smiles.
Michael Pauley is a fantastic narrator. In each of these books, he has the voices down pat, and brings the story and characters alive.
Max's initial meeting with Phoenix in the story was so upbeat and funny. It was obvious, even at this stage, that Max was a goner. I was so intrigued to see how Max, who is deep in the closet, would handle it all. I loved Max's personality, he's such a sweetheart. He has no pretensions, and knows exactly who/what he is. He makes no bones about it. He is so my type of person. He's good at baseball, loves it, he's gay, but is afraid to come out. He's not perfect, but accepts it. He's just so real
I laughed and smiled throughout the entire story. I fell deeply in love with Max and Phoenix, and so wanted them to have their HEA. Sky really grated on me, I just wanted to slap him! I could not wait for him to be quashed, ( but I still want his book, take note Ms Hayes, already looking forward to the audible version 😁), and for Max and Phoenix to get together.
I loved that this book was really low in angst, it was just what I needed. It stayed totally true to Max's madcap personality, which made it all the sweeter, when he realised how he felt about Phoenix, and realised that he had to act.
Highly recommended.....Go get your recording of this book, and the previous three!!! All are well worth listening to. Great characters, lovely romance, and endings to sigh over.
