Summary
Sometimes, Verity Long would like to forget she lives with the ghost of a 1920s gangster. But the reluctant housemates must once again work together when a dead detective blackmails Frankie into helping him solve a Great Gatsby-era cold case. Before she can say “bathtub gin”, Verity is dragged straight into a raging, otherworldly house party. Worse, every guest is hiding something.
Meanwhile, Ellis Wydell, Verity’s living, breathing boyfriend needs Verity’s help with a police case of his own. After a dead body is discovered near the pecan orchard, Verity gives her insights, thinking her job is done. But when mysterious pecan pies start arriving at her house, she wonders who might be thanking her...or stalking her.
Between hard-living ghosts and sugar-laden desserts, Verity has her work cut out for her. But will she uncover the secrets behind the pecan pies and dead guys? Or has she stumbled upon a recipe for disaster?
A warm and witty paranormal cozy mystery!

Five Stars of Gripping Ghostly Tastiness!
A Tasty Tale of Murder and Secrets That Had Me Gripped!
I am already a fan of Ms Fox's writing style; I find her books very easy to read and I like the way she weaves all the elements of her stories together - the mystery, the strained relationship between Verity and the rest of the townsfolk of Sugarland who are loyal to the Wydell family and, of course, the ghosts and their issues.
I downloaded the narration and found myself reading along while listening to the story play out, which has become my favourite way to get lost in a book. As a narrated book, I was once again impressed with Tavia Gilbert's performance; loving the pace at which she read the story, the way she added emotional inflection to the sad, funny or tense scenes and her tonal variations for the dialogue between the characters.
I really loved this story, although some of the scenes were less than cozy - scary! It has everything that I look for in a 5 star story; I laughed, I cried, I was on the edge of my seat (I was even scared at times), in short, I was gripped! Murder, mystery, humour and a sprinkling of romance - what more could a girl want!
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys cosy mysteries with a ghostly, paranormal focus.

enjoyable stories
I have enjoyed the Southern Spirts books as light hearted stories that are fun & easy. thd negative for me is that the narration can become very shrill & 'over excited' for prolonged periods which becomes very hard to tolerate and can detract from the story
