Summary
For 25 years, Positive Discipline has been the gold standard reference for grown-ups working with children. Now Jane Nelsen, distinguished psychologist, educator, and mother of seven, has written a revised and expanded edition.
The key to positive discipline is not punishment, she tells us, but mutual respect. Nelsen coaches parents and teachers to be both firm and kind, so that any child - from a three-year-old toddler to a rebellious teenager - can learn creative cooperation and self-discipline with no loss of dignity. Inside you'll discover how to:
- Bridge communication gaps
- Defuse power struggles
- Avoid the dangers of praise
- Enforce your message of love
- Build on strengths, not weaknesses
- Hold children accountable with their self-respect intact
- Teach children not what to think but how to think
- Win cooperation at home and at school
- Meet the special challenge of teen misbehavior

Excellent
I wish I'd read this before I started having children. Thankfully it's not too late to correct the mistakes I've made.

Very usefull!
I feel that the book was meant as a manual. Smth to study and read again to be able to fully understand and apply. I found it difficult to follow just on audio but a combition of audio and written helps you keep on track.
Well worth the effort.
Highly recommended!

Content is amazing but audio book could do with work.
The book is amazing and every parent should read this book and maybe twice!
However the audible version needs some work. The chapters on the audio do not marry up with the chapters of the book and they talk about graphics that we cannot see. Perhaps someone could do a pdf just for audible?

This is a book to keep for life!
It's not enough to read this book just for once! It really is an encyclopedia to learn about Positive Discipline, I recommend it for each and everyone who deals with children, whether you're a parent, a teacher, or a caregiver. This is sure a book to keep for life!

Excellent book & examples
I love this booked. I’ve already shared it with five people. It’s got such simple yet helpful ideas & principles. I’ve already changed how I deal with misbehaviour in our home & im planning on introducing family meetings when our son is old enough. Thank you

The concept of the book and the overall information were both awesome! The problem was that it was read really slowly!!! It almost took forever to complete it!!

Don't waste your credits on this like I did
The narration is very stiff, but the contents is even worse. A lot of very general (and failry obvious) observations and no real practical advice. No realistic scene setting. Reads more like a study book. At best this book is severely dated (1981) at worst it's self-indulgent know-it-all material.
