Summary
'What if, until now, you've never really prayed. Not like Jesus designed it, anyway.'
Prayer is the source of Jesus's most astonishing miracles and the subject of Jesus' most audacious promises, and yet, most people - even most Bible-believing Christians - find prayer to be boring, obligatory, disappointing, confusing, or, most often, all of the above.
If you've ever felt this way, Praying Like Monks, Living Like Fools is your invitation to trade your conceptions and misconceptions about prayer for prayer in its purest form: a vital, sustaining, powerful connection with God that is more real and alive than you could have ever imagined. In this audiobook, Tyler Staton - author, pastor, and national director of the 24/7 Prayer movement - addresses common roadblocks to prayer and gives you the confidence to come to God just as you are.
Through biblical teaching, powerful storytelling, and insights on historic Christian practices, Staton helps you...
- Express your doubts and disappointments about prayer
- Discover and practice multiple postures of prayer, including silence, persistence, confession, and more
- Understand and embrace the wonder and mystery of prayer in everyday life
- Realize that prayer is a powerful invitation to partner with God in the redemption of a fallen world
- And, ultimately, open or reopen the line of communication with your Creator and experience afresh his divine power on earth.
Prayer is a journey, and this audiobook will help you transition your prayer life from a path littered with half-hearted requests to a treasured journey of ever-deepening, adventurous relationship with Jesus.

Simply beautiful
Simply beautiful- deep rich thoughts that flood over and overwhelm causing a deep overflow of longing for Jesus. Not a perfect pretence but a deep gritty reality that touches every thought question giving licence and encouragement just to be real in prayer honest with ourselves and consistent in pursuing Jesus as consistent as He is to be found.

A great help to my prayer life
Quote
It is not objective proof of God’s existence that we want, but the experience of God’s presence. That is the miracle we are after. And that’s what we get.

Thought provoking and faith stirring
I always enjoy when an author reads their own non-fiction work as you hear the passion and heart. The book is both practical and inspiring, lots of great insight into scripture, historical figures and modern day testimonies that enriched my view of prayer.

Incredibly rich insights and practical application
I want to live a praying life. I have been a Christian for as long as I can remember, and I have only really fully grasped the power of talking with God in the last few years. I feel like I have read most of the classic books on prayer (How to Pray, Letters from a Modern Mystic etc.) and this is right up there with the best. I love how it doesn’t just make me go “wow” and see things in a different light, there is a practical application at the end of each chapter which helps you put what you just learned into practice. I don’t want to just read about prayer; I want to pray!! Thank you Tyler; you are wise beyond your years.

It needs more than one listen.
I listened through it, about 3 or 4 times. I would recommend that you should also do so, because you take away a different gem every time.

Deep, practical teaching on the subject of prayer
I'm a big fan of Pete Grieg's straight-forward, practical teachings on prayer, so found myself drawn to this book through its affiliation with the 24-7 prayer movement and related recommendations. Also, it’s hard to ignore such a great title, isn’t it?
I was concerned it might be covering well-trodden ground but found that Staton's approach was refreshing and insightful. His life in prayer flows from the pages with stories of prayer walking as a 13-year-old around his school every day of the summer holidays, through to anecdotes as a pastor and father in New York. Clear teaching from the scriptures underpins it all, from Elijah in the OT to Jesus and the woman caught in adultery in the NT.
One of my favourite aspects of the book is the 'practical application' presented at the end of each chapter. These were attainable e.g. 2 minutes of silence to listen to God at the start of the day, and really focussed on helping the reader deepen in their relationship with God.
Tyler is a great narrator, bringing his words to life with clarity and purpose. Highly recommended.
