About this listen

Darby Kane thrills with this twisty domestic suspense novel that asks one central question: Shouldn’t a dead husband stay dead?

Lila Ridgefield lives in an idyllic college town, but not everything is what it seems. Lila isn’t what she seems.

A student vanished months ago. Now, Lila’s husband, Aaron, is also missing. At first these cases are treated as horrible coincidences until it’s discovered the student is really the third of three unexplained disappearances over the last few years. The police are desperate to find the connection, if there even is one. Little do they know they might be stumbling over only part of the truth.... With the small town in an uproar, everyone is worried about the whereabouts of their beloved high school teacher. Everyone except Lila, his wife.

She’s definitely confused about her missing husband but only because she was the last person to see his body, and now it’s gone.

Highly recommend!

This highly anticipated thriller by Darby Kane did not disappoint.

From the start you are invested after finding out the lead character Lila has left her husband Aarons dead body to be discovered, in his car. And that Lila is the one that killed him.
How can the story prove to prevail the exciting beginning to the plot......?
Maybe for Aarons body and his car to completely disappear without a trace. Leaving Lila wondering if Aaron is dead after all, did she make a mistake??? And if so is her life in danger.

This is one of those books that you lose sleep over as you just want to read to the end of the chapter, then one more page won't hurt will it. Before you know it it's 3am and well...you might as well just finish it now, as your eyes are stinging 👀

I'm rating it a 4 because it's not quite up there with my favourite thrillers of all time.
But I can highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good thriller.
It's full of plot twists and a surprise ending. It also ties everything up nicely at the end so you aren't left frustrated, wishing you knew what happened with different avenues you've been led down.

I hope Darby Kane is penciling (typing) another suspense filled thriller as we speak because l for one will be pre ordering the next release!

Fantastic gripping story from start to finish

I loved loved this story but found the narrator very difficult to listen to as she struggled to keep in character and to southbound from character to prose. The story gripped my attention from the first sentence to the last. I would definitely recommend it to other readers.

I did Not Expect it to be THAT GOOD?

Loved it. the heroine, Lila, was so unique for me, so easy to love & root for throughout the whole book. What a ride this book was! The main twist of the story, I did NOT see coming: added value to an already-great story. I would love to see a part 2 to this novel. I still think about Jenny, about her boss, about Ryan, about -of course- Lila. Because Im sure she's not done yet ❤️ Thank you to the author, publishers, and audible 🙏🏻💫

Suspense thriller

Good twisty story. At first I thought the narrator was a bit drawly (sorry!) but actually fitted with the story very well! Enjoyed it.

Unbearably gushy narration.

I found the narrator to be very distracting. She tried too hard to portray some sort of emotional strength in every word. The beaten down but strong woman voice was unnecessary and irritating. I am not sure if I have fairly judged the story because of the distracting narration. It really bugged me. I’m disappointed.

Good story awful narration

The story was a good one, I just wish I had read it rather than listening to it.
The narration was so peculiar! Bored, disinterested and all delivered in a monotone.
