Fabulous Pride and Prejudice Variations!
I’ll admit I took my time meandering through these stories – I want to savor rather than binge. That being said, bingeing would’ve worked as well. These are so well done. Whether you’re a huge Austen fan, or only have a passing knowledge of the writer and book, this pile of variations are for you.
Now, I’m a huge P&P fan – especially the 1995 BBC production with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle. So as I listened to each story, I envisioned that cast acting out these different deviations. What if Elizabeth gets poisoned and Darcy is the only one who can save her? What if Mr. Bennet dies before Jane and Bingley are committed? What happens is Mr. Collins takes control?
With each story, I fell farther in love with the original text. Memorable lines felt as familiar as any story I listen to repeatedly. I sank into the Regency world where propriety is paramount and the rules must be obeyed. Well, unless you’re Lydia and Wickham, of course.
These stories were made all the more wonderful from Rafe Beckley’s narration. His talent knows no bounds as he gave perfect voices for each of my beloved characters. He gave life to these stories in a way that was just perfect. Although the books were great, they were made even better by his narration. I can’t wait for more Bella Breen books – especially if they’re narrated by Rafe.

Enjoyable storylines
I have found these storylines very enjoyable, however, American writers must remember that they are attempting to write in English as used in Regency England and that the stories generally take place in Regency England. Frequent use is made of American phrases and terms. In England, even in Regency times we write to someone, we don’t write someone, we go to visit someone and converse or talk we don’t “visit” with them. Turtles are not native to England and would not have been found in ponds or waterways, and likewise, we don’t have catfish. Otherwise, I found the various stories interesting and enjoyable and the narrator was good. In spite of the Americanisms I would listen to these again.

A series of rollicking tales
Although lacking some realism - I am pretty sure a ball at Pemberley organised with only a couple of days notice would not be so well attended, given the distances people would need to travel - and containing a lot of hyperbole, this was a fun listen. It was lighthearted, but with lots of drama and fantastic value with so many different stories. The narrator was clear and easy to listen to, with a soft voice and an excellent variety of voices for the different characters.
Taken with tongue firmly in cheek it brightened many days.

Don't bother!
The characters are caricatures. Words are used incongruously and the grammar is inadequate. To say that the plots are outlandish is to be kind. The narrator tried.
