Summary

The White Council of Wizards has drafted Harry Dresden as a Warden and assigned him to look into rumors of black magic in Chicago. Malevolent entities that feed on fear are loose in the Windy City, but it's all in a day's work for a wizard, his faithful dog, and a talking skull named Bob.

Critic reviews

"One of the most enjoyable marriages of the fantasy and mystery genres on the shelves.” (Cinescape)

“Butcher...spins an excellent noirish detective yarn in a well-crafted, supernaturally-charged setting. The supporting cast is again fantastic, and Harry’s wit continues to fly in the face of a peril-fraught plot." (Booklist)

A little slow to start

A little slow to start, even though lots of action was happening, doesn't really feel that the plot is - but stick in there because it is probably my favourite of the series so far.

Another great story from Jim Butcher.

A great story in itself, but also moved the back story on in a huge leap!! I can't wait to listen to the next great Episode!

Great story and brilliantly told

I like the way this story arc is developing - the characters are all growing and whilst the overall story follows a predictable line there are some significant developments I didn't expect. The plot is a bit darker than some and although the book reaches a conclusion of one plotline it sets up the next one very nicely I've already downloaded White Night and cant wait to hear what happens next

The Narrator is always important in audio books the right combination adds to and improves on the print version and James Marsters is perfect there is absolutely no way he could be improved upon. James as Harry is one the very best I have had the pleasure to listen to.

Another excellent addition

Jim Butcher continues to create an engaging universe full of colourful characters and exciting elements but with enough realism to keep Harry grounded.
James Marsters gives another passionate and enjoyable performance as narrator with a level of commitment to all characters that is commendable.

A great story

With The Dresdon Files there are many mistakes throughout the series, mainly to do with the timeline, like in one book you will hear mention of something happening a year ago, then something that happened at the same time, they will mention it happening two years ago; but aside from that, the story is great, immersive even. And to top it all off, the story only gets better as it goes. I mean, I do have some qualms, like the relationships, Harry has some; but a lot of the time it seems that he is just meant to suffer in that hero, masochistic, martyr fashion...it can get annoying.

I devoured this audiobook having my buds in my ears at every waking moment. Better review to come when I've had some sleep.
