Great book

This book provided really good context as to why public speaking is a fear and had lots of practical steps to overcome it. I have a large presentation to give in a few weeks and this has already helped me prepare and i feel actually excited to give it a go.

Helpful & informative

This book touches on every little detail to consider when preparing and giving talks, speeches or presentations. It will certainly help in getting a talk together and how to keep an audience engaged not only through content, but the way a speech is delivered, and also explores how to handle any unforeseen mishaps. Definitely useful if you're not quite confident in speaking in public.

A motivational & implementable confidence boost!

As the old saying goes, lead by example and Derek Brothwick does this perfectly!

He has narrated his own book, thus every detail is spoken exactly as he intended it to be heard, for example when he discusses speaking with enthusiasm or length of pause.

He is clear, concise and breaks down the complexity techniques so you know if it's basic or advanced. The book is full of tips, tricks and methodology which a nervous or inexperienced speaker can tackle and master one by one.

Some books in this niche can become a bit preachy, however Derek has avoided this problem well and as you work your way through the book you can feel your motivation and confidence grow.

There is a great balance of humour, story telling and of course some great examples - yes I caught myself crossing my arms!

Great audiobook on effective public speaking

This is a Fantastic audiobook on public speaking and communicating without fear. After searching for audiobooks on the subject of public speaking and how to communicate more effectively I can say this is the best I have found. The author does a great job of explaining the mind and how to eliminate the common negative feelings that are associated with public speaking. The audiobook also contains lots of practical exercises that you can do that will help improve your speaking skills. I learned a lot on what to do with my body when I’m presenting and how to program my mind so that I can be as confident and effective as possible when public speaking. After listening to this book and applying the techniques that the author shares I found myself becoming much more confident when presenting and was able to captivate people’s attention much better then before reading the book. If your looking to become better at speaking and have fear when presenting I would highly Recommend this audiobook and using the techniques and exercises the author shares.

A thoroughly great book on this topic

I really enjoyed this book despite the title making my heart start to quicken at the thought of it. I have read other books from this author and they have all been 'right on the money' so to speak. I have done public speaking in the past and the thought of it and actually doing the dreaded deed used to completely exhaust me both mentally and physically days and days before it happened as you had to prepare for it. I still have occasions today where I still have to do this . As I have read and listened to his other books it was easy for me to choose this book. I really enjoyed the explanations about where that 'fear' may actually stem from. It has helped me just in understanding that so I have been trying to take different approaches which the book helps you with. Practising in the house on my own so I do not go back to being overwhelmed by it. I am feeling a lot calmer and more in control of my breathing the of the audiences perceived perception of me. Highly recommend.

Game changer

Having to speak publicly sends me into a panic and my nerves generally get the better of me. But after hearing how to break it down into smaller chunks and going through this step by step guide, I'm almost looking forward to the next time. The author gives good practical advice as to how to deal with each aspect of public speaking has made it seem less daunting, although I can't seem to get the vision of a pink bar of soap on a gold radiator out of my head. A definite must read for anyone who is not fully comfortable with public speaking.

A great resource to build speaking confidence

This audiobook is packed with strategies to use to grow your confidence and improve speaking performance. It includes many good relatable examples and will provide some good things to try to combat challenges, I particularly like the guidance on posture and body language. And like the authors previous books, the bonus content is a helpful source of additional guidance materials.

Helpful and insightful!

I found this book helpful and insightful for improving public speaking skills. The book is a comprehensive guide to public speaking and includes an easy-to-follow step-by-step process showing how to build a talk or presentation together with understanding the psychology of engaging the audience.
The book also contains many practical tips and advice, and my favorite parts were how to use stories to keep the audience engaged, how to handle questions and hecklers, and how to memorise a speech. The book also contains exercises you can practice to help master the skill. For example, one helpful advice was to record yourself when practicing the presentation and then watch the recording to iron out any nervous body language and other distracting habits we might be unaware of.
The author also highlights the importance of keeping to time and gives some great advice on how to manage this, e.g., plan ahead, practice, use mind maps, and some tips around using speaking cards if needed - highly recommended if you are looking to improve your public speaking skills!

Inspiring, motivating and beautifully written!

What I love about this audiobook is that it's narrated by the author himself. Derek Borthwick's background makes him highly credentialed to talk about this topic and you really get a sense that you are hearing expert advice. He shares some of his own very interesting and useful anecdotes throughout the book which make the concepts extremely relatable and easy to understand.

This book has also helped me realize how important being able to speak in public and effectively communicate your message is, not only to come across well, but to thrive in business and earn more money in the long term. A seriously great listen and resource for anyone who wants to improve their communication skills. I will be certainly be using this as a reference to come back to. I feel like I want to listen to it again already!
