About this listen
Punk’s War reveals the inner workings of the US Navy as only an insider can. An authentic and riveting thriller, it is a highly acclaimed novel of a fighter pilot’s experience in the era just before 9/11. As the US military enters another postconflict period, the themes of leadership during crisis and accomplishing the mission make Punk’s War more relevant than ever.

Full of colour and realism
Sometimes you find a rare gem of a story that occupies you totally until it's read, or listened to, completely.
I found Ward Carrol on YouTube some months ago and discovered a man who presented his videos with calm assurance and clarity in a very engaging style. Well, guess what? He writes the same way.
If I didn't already know, this novel had to be by a fighter pilot. Not only that, an F14 Tomcat driver. It is the little details that make the difference and give such colour to the story, deftly done and simply stated.
A terrific novel of modern carrier ops and flying.

Believable story
I never served in any military, so I can't really say if it's realistic or not, but it feels a lot closer to my imperfect world than top gun did. Frustrating and complex. If this is a fair portrayal of Navy life, it makes me feel slightly less bad for missing out on it.
I enjoyed the book very much.

An amazing book
This book is a brilliant read, put simply I think it’s the best book about carrier air ops since flight of the intruder. A must read. 5 stars.

Fantastic
Having become a fan of Ward’s YouTube channel i thought I would have a listen and it didn’t disappoint thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish and look forward to the other books on the line.
With Ward being an f14 Rio it was fantastic to have such a great insight into carrier operations particularly F14s from someone who has actually been there and done it.
Give it a listen!

Fails to deliver
The concept had much promise, but the story fails to deliver. Lacking in flying action, this is more like a crew room soap opera with a pretty weak storyline attached.
Best avoided
