About this listen
The long-awaited memoir by movie and theatre legend Brian Cox.
A Guardian, Times, Sunday Times and Independent Book of the Year
*Featuring a foreword by the executive producer of Succession, Frank Rich, an executive producer of HBO's Succession, a former chief drama critic of The New York Times, and the author of the memoir Ghost Light.*
From Titus Andronicus with the RSC to media magnate Logan Roy in HBO's Succession, Brian Cox has made his name as an actor of unparalleled distinction and versatility. We know him on screen, but few know of his extraordinary life story.
Growing up in Dundee, Scotland, Cox lost his father when he was just eight years old and was brought up by his three elder sisters in the aftermath of his mother's nervous breakdowns and ultimate hospitalisation. After joining the Dundee Repertory Theatre at the age of 15, you could say the rest is history—but that is to overlook the enormous graft that has gone into the making of the legend we know today.
This is a rags-to-riches life story like no other—a seminal autobiography that both captures Cox's distinctive voice and his very soul. Rich in emotion and meaning, with plenty of laughs along the way, it will be a classic in the vein of The Moon's a Balloon by David Niven and What's It All About by Michael Caine.

Besides his film and telly work I was amazed at the extent of his theatre repertoire and his discussion on actors actually 'acting' and the work involved in both acting and directing was really, really interesting. His foray into Hollywood was also entertaining as were some scabrous take downs of various actors and directors.
I feel I know more of the man than I did before and I am grateful for his insight into the life of a transatlantic actor of standing and repute with 50+ years experience treading the boards. Thank you Brian and I wish you well.
Great.

Certainly passed the long drive up and down the lovely A9 from Dundee to Inverness. Glad I came to St Andrews to hear your story and buy the signed book for Betty’s neighbour (Malcolm) for his Christmas gift. Was hoping to visit Betty for her birthday, but unfortunately the pandemic started.
Loved this book

Nathan:
Alice, please? Your dog, Alice - it and my appetite are mutually exclusive.
Alice:
Well, what's wrong with the dog?
Nathan:
Simple: he's been licking his a**hole for the last three straight hours. I submit to you that there is nothing there worth more than an hour's attention and I should think that whatever he is attempting to dislodge, is either gone for good... or there to stay.
Thank you Brian!
Thoroughly Enjoyable Read
