Summary
Traitors lurking in the halls. A kingdom under siege. A secret that could rock the foundation of an entire realm.
Will dreams of an escape. Hesitant to return home to his cruel, abusive father, the lowly village boy encounters two youths walking his way and is delighted when they engage him in playful sword fighting. And when he joyfully accepts an offer to move to the castle and become a squire, he’s utterly unaware of the deadly perils he’s about to confront.
Training as a knight-to-be, Will and his companions discover tunnels running beneath the castle and are viciously attacked by murderous exiles intent on toppling the monarchy. Narrowly escaping with help from the king and his men, the loyal young man meets a mysterious hooded figure ready to unlock a mystery that will change his world forever.
Can Will survive a land descending into chaos, betrayal and brutal grabs for power?
Ranger of Kings is the action-packed first book in the William of Alamore YA low fantasy series. If you like compelling casts, gripping plot twists, and royal maneuverings, then you’ll love C. J. R. Isely’s riveting adventure.

A decent listen
This was a decent listen about a young boy wanting to be a knight but things go sideways when he discovers a network of tunnels and enemies. The story flowed fairly good and came to a decent conclusion. I get this audiobook was aimed at teenagers rather than adults but don’t let that put you off the decent world building and characters within the story

Fun start to the series - I’ll be sure to check out the rest!
Exciting low-fantasy story, following Will and his friends as they try to survive their first year as squires, against the backdrop of threats and alliances with other castles/countries. Populated by almost exclusively male characters, there are squires, knights, kings, healers, and soldiers, but my favourite characters were the horses - they each have their own personalities!
Just who is Will, why does his father hate him so much, and how does the Ranger of Kings fit in? Who are the Tunnel people, and can the castle survive all the threats set out against it?
Great start to the series. This could be read on its own, as the storylines in this book reach a natural conclusion, but it also leaves things set up for the future too.
The audiobook is long, at over 10hrs, but still enjoyable. The narrator’s accent took me a little getting used to, but he does a great job of differentiating between the characters. (Sadly, there are a few places where the production quality isn’t so great, but not so much as to spoil the experience.)

Very enjoyable
I was given a free copy of this book and I'm leaving an honest and voluntary review.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, the characters, the depth and detailing are exceptional. ita very imaginative and exciting. I was quickly drawn in and I was lead on a journey of adventure, one that kept me fully entertained.
The narration is spot on giving each character their own personality, bring while experience together.
I'd most definitely recommend this book to anyone.

Absolutely love it
Not my usual type of stories, but absolutely love it. My first book by this author, have already bought the second. Hope the third in series will be available soon.
What I like about the story is everything. The audio could be better though. The narrator is pretty good, but the audio sounds like different parts of the story are recorded at different volume levels. However, not that annoying and easy to ignore. The story itself is a wonderful fairytale, told simply, but really well. Wonderfully imaginative and even informative. Made me at least think differently about castle life and what it could include. What I liked most about the story is the plot itself and also the dialogue between the 3 boys. But as said already, everything about this story is likable, even adorable. The only thing I don´t like about the story is the total absence of girls and women. Hence the 4 stars.

Ranger of Kings
I have listened to this book and my children have listened to it as well. The book has a good story line and you can get a good visual from the audio and story. I would recommend for teenagers that prefer to listen to a story rather that read a book.
