About this listen
From USA Today best-selling author Parker S. Huntington comes a steamy, slow-burn love story full of enemies-to-lovers banter and second chances.
We were best friends, then we were enemies.
Loved. Protected. Cherished. There was a time when Ranieri Andretti made me feel those things. That was before his family came after mine.
He was supposed to forget me. We went our separate ways. It should have stayed like that. But now he's back in my life, and he's my new boss.
I want to hate him. He's my ex-best friend. My tormentor. The head of the Andretti family. But no matter how hard I try...I can't stay away.
Ranieri Andretti is a long stand-alone novella in the Five Syndicates mafia romance series.

Parker S. Huntington is such a brilliant writer. The way she has built and intwined this series is applaud-worthy. Each book is connected but works as a standalone. You never feel like you have missing pieces, even if you read out of order and getting to see certain things from other characters point of view throughout the series is genius, it works so perfectly. Parker has such a beautiful way of creating these characters and circumstances where you know you should probably dislike the hero and his actions but deep down, you just can't help being in love with him. Make no mistake though, he is a hero. Ranieri Andretti is the mafia prince with a heart of gold. Which, if you’ve read the previous books in the series will surprise you. And the heroine? Sheesh. Parker writes the BEST heroines. I love them almost as much as I love the heroes. They are strong and feisty. Just how I like them. Carina Gallo is no exception, she’s not going to just roll over and do what Ranie wants and I loved that about her.
I’ve always been a sucker for second chance romances and this book is no different. It's a novella - 3 and a half hours at standard listening speed, but don't let that put you off from listening to this story. It's not lacking at all. The characters are well rounded and I never felt like I was missing something. I think Parker did a fabulous job of giving the reader enough information without repeating things from other books. That takes skill. Ranie and Carina have such a long history. Their love started so innocently and it was beautiful and perfect...until it wasn't. I liked how that played out and although I was holding myself back from kicking Ranie in the nads a few times, I knew something must have happened, once we finally get that missing piece it all made sense. I loved how as adults Ranie pursued Carina and because of the things they'd been through she fought it. She wasn’t just going to forgive and forget without an explanation, one Ranie wasn’t prepared to give. I loved that back and forth between them. The sexual tension between this couple was palpable, the build-up and the coming together was fantastic, it made everything they’d been through worth it. Now, it wouldn’t be a good book without something dodgy going on and let’s just say, I had my suspicions and I might have growled out loud when things came to light about a certain character. The epilogue was ALL the things.
Let’s talk about this narration for a second. This was Desiree Ketchum’s first audiobook? You cannot tell, it was a high-quality production and performance. I loved her tone and cannot wait to listen to more from her. Desiree has already been added to my must listen list. Her switch up between the different characters was smooth yet obvious, each female has a distinct voice. The way she performed Carina was just how I imagined when I read the book. Jeremy York is one of my favourites but it’s been a while since I listened to anything from him and I’m so pleased that I got to get reacquainted with his skills as a performer. He nailed the tough but sweet Ranieri - he was Ranie. No doubt. I’ve never heard him perform in duet before but I’m going to need more, stat. His transition from each male character was flawless and each was unique. They both delivered the frustrations the characters were going through with conviction that it was believable. Their voices really complemented each other, I definitely think they should do more work together.
I love duet narrations and I thought this one was done beautifully. It was very easy to follow and having read the book, I think it enhanced the listening experience. Now to beg Parker for all future books to be in duet, since she’s spoiling us with three this year. There was just one minor production issue that I noted. The end credits has the wrong narrator, it says, Zachary Webber instead of Jeremy York, but other than that it was a smooth production.
A must listen

This was an excellently crafted second-chance story, with Ranie and Carina being the two main characters. The story went back and forth between the present and snippets of time from their past. It was delightfuly interwoven, and built up the tension and attraction between this pair in a perfect way. I listened to this on whispersync/ audible, and I have to say I found the two narrators really added greatly to the feeling of this novella. I absolutely loved that there was a male and female narrator for this dual pov story.
A well crafter novella 4.5 stars
