About this listen

From number one best-selling author Brandon Sanderson and Janci Patterson comes the second of three Skyward series novellas, set between Starsight and Cytonic.

Don't trust their lies. Don't trust their false peace.

That is the warning that Alanik of the planet ReDawn told the human pilot Spensa after Alanik's ship crash-landed on Detritus. While accepting an invitation to meet with her people's enemy, the Galactic Superiority, Alanik heard Spensa's cry for help across the vastness of space, and she used her cytonic powers to hyperjump her ship to the source of that cry. What she found there was a shock - a whole planet of free humans fighting against the Superiority. Could they be the allies her people desperately needed?

When she recovered from her injuries and met the friendly humans Jorgen and FM of Skyward Flight, she found that her warning to Spensa had gone unheeded by the government of Detritus and they were considering a peace overture from the Superiority. Now having returned to ReDawn, Alanik is dismayed to learn that her own people are falling into the exact same trap.

The faction in ReDawn's government that wants to appease the Superiority has gained the upper hand. With Alanik's mentor Renakin captured, she has no one to turn to but Jorgen, FM, and their friend Rig. An ancient technology may have the power to save both of their planets from disaster, but can they discover its secrets before it's too late?

Much much better

Phew, after listening to Sunreach I was worried but this is thankfully much better and a return to more typical Sanderson storytelling. More action, more pace, less cringe romance and a great new alien world.

loved it

great side story to main timeline. I wish someone would make a movie out of this instead of repeating old movies

Great novella

This is a very good novella, Which expansion continues the universe of skyward. However, please be aware if you do not read these. You will miss major plot chunks from the main books

OK story, well read. Not Sanderson, though

Story seems Eragon-ish, not polished enough. I took a bite for Sanderson, did not get one though

Good story, good performance.

ReDawn was a good book. I don't think it was as good as sunreach though. Alanik didn't feel as distinct or that different from FM. She felt somewhat underwritten.

I think the imaginative world building of ReDawn and the UrDail was typically brilliant of Sanderson and a highlight.

That ending went darker than I expected to. So satisfying increase of the stakes for a middle story in the trilogy. Especially with the prior success.

Jorgan or Yurgan...

I love the story but why oh why did the narrater have to muck up Yurgans name? I know I'm spelling it wrong, I'm using the phonetic spelling.
Three books in and the new narrater mispronounces his name and now it seems to have stuck. Such a shame as it jars everytime she says it. Should have ensured there was continuity within these novellas.

Engaging

Much better than Sunreach. I don't like the way this narrator pronounces names differently to the original Skyward narrator.

not enough character development

The previous books had fairly good character development which was lacking in this book. I feel I really don't get a chance to connect with the main character and didn't care about any new characters in this story which is a pity as this was a feature of this series that I really enjoyed. Still not a bad listen just disappointing in comparison to the other books.
