About this listen

Nominated for the Audiobook Download of the Year, 2008.

When Lister got drunk, he really got drunk!

After celebrating his birthday with a Monopoly-board pub crawl around London, he came to in a burger bar on one of Saturns moons, wearing a lady's pink crimplene hat and a pair of yellow fishing waders, with no money and a passport in the name of "Emily Berkenstein".

Joining the Space Corps seemed a good idea. Red Dwarf, a clapped out spaceship, was bound for Earth. It never made it, leaving Lister as the last remaining member of the human race, three million light years from Earth, with only a dead man, a senile computer, and a highly evolved cat for company.

They begin their journey home. On the way, they'll break the light barrier. They'll meet Einstein, Archimedes, God, and Norman Wisdom...and discover an alternative plane of reality.

Extremely Witty, Couldn't Stop Listening

I was initially a little wary of this as I'd never seen the TV series. However after watching the TV series and listening to the audiobook I can say that I prefer this to the TV series. The British comedy is easily on a par with the likes of Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams, and is performed flawlessly by Chris Barrie, (after watching the TV series, I know find it difficult to tell the difference between the actors voices and Barrie's). I really hope this isn't the peak of Grant and Naylor's books as I am looking forward to listening to the next in the series (Better than Life) as the book ends in a bit of a cliffhanger. After around 5 minutes you start to fall in love with the characters. I've definitely seen a lot of Dave Lister in myself as well as a good splash of Rimmer which only adds to the fun of the book.

In short, I would heartily recommend this to any fan of sci fi, as it really doesn't take itself too seriously or any fan of witty comedy.

Enjoyable

Although I’ve seen it, still enjoyed a light hearted Re-Listen & marvelled at the cleverness of the writing

Great Read of you enjoy Red Dwarf

Well worth a listen. Although it loosely follows the TV series, there is more back story of how Lister ends up on Red Dwarf. Chris Barrie is great as the narrator. Now to listen to Better Than Life

Chris Barrie's voice talent is outstanding. Thoroughly enjoyed this book from the origin story to the familiarity of the tv series.

Very Good!

Engrossing storytelling by the perfect narrator. I found the musical interludes a bit hectic though!

Red dwarf at it's finest.

If you like the series you should love this. Yes it's the rehash of the TV series but with adequate differences to make it a good listen. Your chance to let your mind take over from your eyes.
