About this listen

No 1 Ladies' Detective Agency meets The Durrells in 1950s Devon.

'There you have it -' Miss Dimont smiled and, lifting her dark glasses, turned to face the trainee reporter '- in a nutshell. A mystery death. Needs looking into, wouldn't you say?'

Death stalks the beaches of Devon.

With its pale, aquamarine waters and golden sands, the shoreline at Temple Regis was a sight to behold. But when an unidentifiable body is found there one morning, the most beautiful beach in Devon is turned into a crime scene.

For Miss Dimont - ferocious defender of free speech, champion of the truth and ace newspaperwoman for The Riviera Express - this is a case of paramount interest, and the perfect introduction for her young new recruit Valentine Waterford. Even if their meddling is to the immense irritation of local copper Inspector Topham....

Soon Miss Dimont and Valentine are deep in investigation - why can nobody identify the body, and why does Topham suspect murder? And when a second death occurs, can the two possibly be connected?

Critic reviews

Praise for T P Fielden: "This is a fabulously satisfying addition to the canon of vintage crime. No wonder the author has already been signed up to produce more adventures starring the indefatigable Miss Dimont." ( Daily Express)
"Unashamedly cosy, with gentle humour and a pleasingly eccentric amateur sleuth, this solid old-fashioned whodunit is the first in what promises to be an entertaining series." ( The Guardian)
"Highly amusing." ( Evening Standard)

Brilliant

The plot was really good and kept us guessing until the end, can’t wait for the next one from this author. We also appreciated that bad language was kept to a minimum, thank you to TPFielder

Gentle addictive mystery and compelling sleuth

These stories are great to listen to. Eve Karpf's rendering of Miss Dimont is perfect and the fictitious setting in Devon is evocative of the ideal seaside town in the mid 20c . I can't wait for the next one in the series and I hope the series goes on and on. Absolutely spiffing!

A slow burn and rather leisurely story

I found it a bit slow to get going, but once it did, it rolled along at a very plausible pace as things were learnt about the mystery. A couple of possibly loose ends, but that's true of real life too. A nice development from the first story in the series, and we learn a bit more about Judy Dimont and the two characters in the story she'd served with in Naval Intelligence.

Uncomfortable listen

I am not sure which annoyed me more. The over sold feminism within the story line or the terrible screeching by the narrator for the character of the Editor. This hurt my ears when listening through ear buds. Overall story was progressing but had to stop listening.

New type of BOok for me, most enjoyable

New type of book for me, most enjoyable. Storyline was great, kept you listening, only criticism would be the distinction between one female voice and another, kept rewinding to see who was talking. Male voices were fine. Thoroughly good read (on audible). Looking forward to the next one.

High Quality Cosy

We loved this second instalment and look. forward to more. Miss Dymont is growing on us. TP Fielden has a witty and inventive style with satirical touches and wise observations.
