Summary

Bloomsbury presents Running: Cheaper Than Therapy by Chas Newkey-Burden, read by Elliot Chapman.

A witty and expertly compiled compendium of running wisdom and humour.

From a short jog that lifts your mood to the closing stages of a marathon when you feel physically exhausted but emotionally invincible all at once, running delivers every time.

Running: Cheaper Than Therapy is a celebration of the pastime that always makes you feel better, covering every aspect of running life from jogging etiquette and the things we both love and hate about it, through to the weirdest and most wonderful marathons around the world. Also included are the funniest spectator signs ever, cool advice that could improve your PB and brilliantly insightful running philosophies.

Complete with guest contributions from Parkrun founder Paul Sinton-Hewitt, political strategist Alastair Campbell, Olympian Liz Yelling and comedian David Baddiel, this brilliantly knowing compendium will be appreciated by joggers, triathletes and runners who know the joy of putting on a pair of trainers and getting out there.

Loved This

I listened to this on my daily morning run with the dogs. It is both entertaining and interesting. I found myself laughing in agreement a lot and nodding my head. Lots of fascinating facts and figures, many I knew but I also learned some new things. Well put together with some famous names giving their thoughts too. Sorry it is finished as I could happily have listened to more. I have now also downloaded Chas's other book to listen to when running. I thought the narrator was excellent.

Runtertaining

An entertaining collection of facts and short stories…story only received three stars because it was fact rather than story driven.

A Chuckle As You Run

As a new runner, I found myself searching for a lighthearted something to listen to as I ran.

This was it, constantly made me smile through my runs.

repetitive ramblings

this book isn't awful but it certainly is far from good. It feels more like a collection of tweets from a self-righteous liberal than it does a book. It might make a good addition to the stack of books in the bathroom to mildly amuse whilst on the toilet as you can pick it up at any point and read through a few light-hearted quips about running (Although I think the author thinks he's far funnier than he actually is) but it does not work as an audiobook.

Only just better than silence on my run

I purchased this book to listen to while doing my runs around the park. Unfortunately it didn’t do a lot to while away the miles as was just a collection of rather disjointed stories that lacked interest and humour.
