About this listen

Fawn Reed has kissed one too many toads and has finally decided that Prince Charming doesn't exist. After countless mishaps, mistakes, and unmitigated disasters on the dating scene, she's decided to give up and move on with her life...solo.

Everything changes, however, after Fawn runs into Levi Fremont, a homicide detective new to New York City.

Dedication to the job has rendered Levi's love life nonexistent - until he moves in next door to the free-spirited Fawn. After a series of comedic run-ins push them together, will they finally give in to the inevitable and realize - maybe - they are perfect for each other?

Sweet romance with HEA

This was a sweet romance. Somewhat predictable, but enjoyable with a HEA.

The book is mostly from Fawn's POV, how she navigates meeting and falling for Levi. We also have some chapters from Levi's POV - I do enjoy reading from the male perspective, as I think it adds so much more to the story.

They meet when out running when Fawn has her eyes closed and arms flailing and runs straight into Levi, but this is never explained at any point in the book (very frustrating), so not sure why it was mentioned at all - another more plausible reason surely could have been used.

Fawn is a quirky nerd, who works as a 5th-grade teacher. She did come across as sweet and likeable but is also a bit accident-prone - which just seems to add to the times Levi can swoop in and help her out.

Levi is a police officer, and is smitten from their first meeting, but has his work cut out trying to convince Fawn they should be in a relationship.

Fawn's sisters definitely grew on me. But her mother did not, she was embarrassing, and I was waiting for someone to pull her on her inappropriate comments but nobody ever did. Levi's mother was better, but not by much. I think it was suppose to come across as sweet that they cared so much but for me, it just came across as interfering and cringe-worthy.

I listened to this book in duel narration. I like listening to different voices but I wasn't keen on the female voices from the male narrator.

Preferred To Read It

I enjoyed this book overall but I did not enjoy the audio version. The male narrator spoke to quickly and his version of any female lines sounded really off. The female narrator was just ok. I switched over to reading it because the audio was spoiling my enjoyment of the book.

Great story though - I will definitely be following the series.
