Summary

When legendary old school villain Paul Massey immersed himself in the murky world of his modern-day counterparts, he was executed with a machine gun on the drive of his home. Contained within this audiobook is his story.

It is a story that will horrify the non-criminal mind and lay bare how Massey unwittingly became the architect of his own demise. Massey was not the only casualty of a toxic feud that had ignited between two Salford gangs following the most trivial of disputes. John Kinsella, a close friend of Massey's, was gunned down in front of his pregnant partner. A seven-year-old boy and his mother were shot, a hand grenade was hurled through the front window of a family home, an attempt was made to behead a man with a machete, and an orgy of beatings, stabbings, kidnappings, and shootings were carried out in the name of respect.

In today’s underworld, the old school criminal code has been confined to the bin. Being known as a hard man once demanded respect, but no more. Guns, and having the mindset to use one, often for little or no reason, has become the norm. Drugs are the currency, and death often the penalty for a discrepancy or misdemeanour. It is an unforgiving world that Paul Massey helped to create, and a world that ultimately resulted in his death.

On the fence

I felt the story was at times drifting away from Paul Massey himself. No offence to the narrator but hearing a story being told with someone with a lisp doesn't do it for me.

excellent

This is a very disturbing book about real life violence. At times it's hard to believe the stupidity. It's a very sad story.

Really interesting

Very much enjoyed this book. Great stories. I know the narrator has been criticised for not having a Manchester accent, but it didn’t bother me

In-depth recounting of the Salford feuds, terrible narrator

Probably the worst narrator I’ve come across, mispronounces simple words and was delivered extremely emotionless

Brilliant!

Growing up in an around Manchester in 80’s and 90’s. Stories were rife in the clubs.
Good to correct all the Chinese whispers. Proper trip down memory lane.

Good Book, Terrible narration.

the Narrator doesn't have the best of voices I had to slow his voice down a little bit.
Also I'm from Salford and he pronounces some of the names of places so wrong I even had to think a second about where he was talking about.
but the book itself is actually pretty good and informative and I have heard some of these stories myself and think it's pretty well researched.
I can remember the chokehold Massey had over Salford in the 90s every man and his dog claimed to either be his friend or related to him and would use his name to intimidate people .

Awful NARRATOR

The subject matter is serious and very graphic with extreme violence. Set in Salford, who on earth chose this man to narrate this story? His feeble, high pitched tone of voice lends no credibility to the story. He totally ruined it for me. Unfortunately I bought this by before listening to the sample as I am from the local area and have heard about Massey so thought this would be great. EXTREMELY Poorly NARRATED !
