Summary
Cassia Vici is on a one-way trip to Saturn - to help humanity reach the stars.
A towering genius who'd already solved the problem of death by making memory recording possible, Cassia leads a team of scientists and problem solvers to a station floating in the harsh winds of Saturn. Their mission: to grow interstellar ships using nanobots in the planet's material-rich environment. She called them "monsters" to help sell the project to a skeptical public.
Little did she know how prophetic that name would become.
But an unexpected death seeds doubt among the team, putting the mission in jeopardy. As her team struggles to save the future, Cassia is haunted by her past - a wife and daughter who died in the very technology that made mind recording possible.
With time running out, Cassia and her crew will need one final miracle to build the monsters that could become both their savior - and their doom.

good to find a queer female protagonist in space
interesting story but the end left me wanting a bit more.
loved having a female narrator on a space story.
worth a listen and it's short enough to get though on a whim.
please to find the queer representation as not a Major plot point just well considered and quite natural

I feel like this was written by a sociopath
The main character in this story does incredibly evil things. Yet she's still presented as a martyr-hero.
She blackmails vulnerable people, betrays those closest to her, hides secrets that get people killed and has all the scientific ethics of Doctor Moreau.
She constantly talks about reform and redemption but to final word of the story she remains morally reprehensible.
Her final speech is about standing on the shoulders of giants... those aren't the shoulders of giants mate that's the piled up bodies of the people you just led to their grisly death.
She is the monster of Saturn.
Still there were some unique and interesting sci-fi concepts. Plus the voice work was good, solid narration.

Good story but the narrator is very distracting and poor
The narrator sounds like an AI very bland so it distracts from the story.

A good story overall
Storyline was great, characters were fleshed out and diverse. A good concept but it does feel like it should’ve been named “Saturn’s Spaceships”, as monsters, they were not. This feels like the book definition of click bait. The sci-fi jargon was a little difficult to follow for the novice reader but not so much that you couldn’t follow the actual story.
The narrator… I’m sure she’s good on other titles and put in a solid effort but she shouldn’t have done this book. Rebecca Chu (the character) was supposed to be British and it’s obvious that the narrator did not have the skill to accurately portray any British accent moreover Rebecca’s accent frequently went on a national tour, sometimes even going down under and via Cape Town. Utterly comical at points. The main character was relatable and I would be interested in reading the author’s other titles.

Love and Tragedy in Deep Space
Narrator was fantastic! A great short story with some deep characterisation. Highly recommend even if you're not a sci-fi fan.
